We stayed here in April while driving through the area. It had beautiful views and a trail that led to the river at the bottom. The facilities were clean.
We stayed in April; the trails were closed due to the heavy rain this year. Imperial Beach is not the place for swimming. There’s a sign going in that says there’s chemicals and sewage in the water. You can camp here though and go north to other beaches.
We got there after dark and headed into the dispersed camping. Even though the actual campground was full, we found a spot less than a quarter mile away and there were plenty more. The views in the morning were breathtaking. Bathrooms were clean.
Free camping with clean outhouses! The water was too high (an unusually high year) to get in safely. Windy for part of the night but not horrible. Tons of people showed up which made our site feel pretty crowded
