Arrived late on a Saturday in June and the area was packed! We just kept driving along a pretty rugged dirt road until we found a site. Turned out to be great. Not a person in sight and very wooded. The road we ended up on was best for 4WD but the less remote parts of the area would be accessible to any vehicle.
Loved this campground. We had a large site with deer walking through and the sunset was beautiful. We were able to choose our own site. Other campers were quiet and respectful. We took advantage of the pancake breakfast at the cafe in the morning. A total treat.
We had a first class view of the dunes from our campsite and it was stunning. Wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else while enjoying this park. It was windy and there were a lot of mosquitoes but the views and nearby trail access to the dunes made it all worth it. Very kid friendly spot! Bathrooms were clean and close by.
Curt Gowdy is a beautiful and huge state park that has a bunch of small campgrounds centered around two reservoirs. We were disappointed with the first site we booked at the Crystal Reservoir so we found another site in the North Causeway area of the larger Granite reservoir. Both areas are lovely, we just wanted a bigger site. We were very happy with our stay. We hiked, paddle boarded and fished all within steps of our campsite. We were sad to leave.
Quiet and pretty campground about 30 minutes drive from Mt Rushmore. Only reservable same day and at 7 am we got one of the last remaining sites, so book early in the morning! We swam and paddle boarded in the lake and there was a ranger presentation in the evening. The drive to Rushmore the next morning was beautiful through the Black Hills National Forest. Bathrooms were basic.
We stayed at Blue Mounds for one night on a cross country trip. It’s a beautiful park and the campground was quiet and pretty. Sites were private enough. Ours looked over a beautiful meadow. Bathrooms were very clean and had showers but no hot water. Very kid friendly with easy hiking trails and a playground not far away.
Wooded campground in a beautiful state park. Sites were private and well spaced. Lots of fireflies but no mosquitoes. Pit toilets. We got there too late to use the pool unfortunately. Nice playground in the campground.
