Come during the late summer/early fall to beat the crowds. Deam Wilderness is just down the road, with some of the best backcountry hiking in the Midwest.
I was able to stay at a walk on site, which had a trail attached to it that led directly to the lake. Absolutely incredible being able to watch the sunset while being completely alone on the beach.
The park is beautiful, with lots of scenic trails. The scenic drive is a must!
Definitely not the best state park campground in Indiana. Features a lot of sites, but they are all fairly close together with little separation.
There is also a backpacking campground, that is around 2.5 miles from the main campground. It has water and outhouses, but is not very scenic, as it’s on a shady hill up above sugar creek.
I prefer this campground a lot more compared to the state park one, especially if tent camping. They have a section of walk in sites that are nicely spread apart, while still only being a few minutes walk to parking and the shower house.
Really enjoyed how this campground connects to Red River Gorge via a few different trails. Made it easy to go out on a day hike and return back to your site.
Beautiful campground, with great sites located on the forest ridge lines.
This place is the gift that keeps in giving being so close to the city. Beautiful sites on the lake, and dozens of other spots scattered throughout the forest as well.
