Beautiful spot

We wanted to find some dispersed camping but didn’t have much luck so decided to stay here.

This is one of the nicest state campsites I’ve ever been to. The bathrooms were in really nice condition.

We don’t usually go camping at state parks but we lucked out in this one. It wasn’t peak season when we went so I can only imagine how busy it gets. I wouldn’t bother trying to come here in the summer months personally, we try to stay away from the crowded campsites.

Overall I really recommend this place. There’s some nice trails to see the redwoods. The day use area was really nice, we will be coming back to spend some time at the river.

Nice spot to spend the night

Found this spot on our way down to California. Not a bad spot to camp, it’s very quite and we were the only ones there.

Getting there is pretty easy, we made it a lot more difficult by going down a bunch of roads. Stick to the main road, the road to the campsite is on the right and has a tree that’s spray painted with a stick figure. It’s very steep like the other review said but isn’t too bad for a truck.

There aren’t a lot of spots here. We parked right by the lake, there was another spot in the middle of the loop, and a few others.

It looks like there’s a trail that goes around the lake. We found some ticks on the dogs immediately so we didn’t end up exploring it. Overall a nice spot, it’s right off the highway so you don’t have to worry about driving deep in the mountains.

hidden gem

This campsite is amazing. We're pretty new to finding free and dispersed camping spots so it was a long shot to get here, but we lucked out and fell in love with this place.

Getting there is fairly easy. GPS for us didn't give us the right lake but we drove on until there was a sign for the campground. There's no chance of you missing it. The drive is also very beautiful.

The campground has a lot of spots. The first spot is the only one I'd considered "good" for an rv but I wouldn't bother trying. The first 5 or 6 spots and can pull your vehicle off the road and set up. There are a few hike in spots that we didn't check out but were well marked.

There are fire pits, picnic tables, bathrooms, and plenty of good spots to set up a hammock.

They also have a boat launch, but it didn't seem that great. I didn't see anyone use it to get boats or kayaks in the water-only people carrying their kayaks.

We loved it here and really lucked out on our spot.

easy to find camping

Finding a spot to camp on the road is pretty straightforward, it's right off the highway so you won't be able to miss it. There's plenty of sites, most of which were taken when we got there. It looks like the first few campsites on the road are the best-bigger space, more privacy, nice views.  As you drive more you'll find smaller and more exposed camp sites.

There is a trail at the end of the road, so there were a lot of cars driving in and out of the place. If you're wanting to stay for a few days and want some privacy I would recommend somewhere else but it's perfect if you're passing though and just want to stay for the night.

We got out there late Friday evening and managed to find a spot that was pretty hidden. There was a group that camped on the side of the road so there is always that option.
