We chose #29 as it was unshaded and we need solar & Starlink & the weather is fairly cool. Could survive using generator & hotspot-but why?
Friendly & helpful hostess. We arrived w/o booking and lucked out on FCFS. This also let us book a day or two at a time, and avoid the $8 fee for online reservations. Conveniently the ‘America the Beautiful’ pass got us 50% off.
Water spigot provided water. Dumpsters scattered. No elec. Apparently there is a dump station - have not investigated
Nice layout. FHU at $32 + tax is reasonable for area. 3 or 4 miles north of Custer SD
Laundry available Showers also - probably for tent sites
Fairly close to highway-but by sleep time there was not much activity
Did not use facilities. Did not use their WiFi nor deploy Starlink as Verizon coverage is excellent
Initial road in is seriously corrugated- just drive slowly until you turn off to side road.
Different roads if loop provided easy access. We bought out 30” 5th in without problems, and our (distant) neighbors were a class A with trailer
Random pit-toilets, but not much else
Lake is low, shore is mud
Nice with breeze most days we were there
Rocky Point Recreation Area
Nice spacious sites
Being charged $6 or $7 as a reservation fee is a tad excessive when you’re paying $28 for electric only site. Drop-toilets available. Dump station and potable water
If you can boondock, plenty sites on opposite side of lake ( see Belle Fourche Dam & Reservoir, and it’s free)
Ground was so parched-grass do dry that it hurts pooch to w as ok on it
Overall, a nice peaceful place. Well maintained, friendly staff
Upon arrival as l, previous camper left his crap in the fire ring
Butte View Campground
Nicely spaced, clean and well maintained. If you don’t need hookups, then the Lions Club campground is a great ( cheaper @ $12) alternative - also a free site a few miles past Butte View is an option - on Gascoyne Lake, dry camping
We did not need FHU, so cannot comment on utilities. We had 50 amp and it was good. Found internal sites in loops a little weird ( in alignment), but we stayed on outer loop and had a bit more room.
Nice park, friendly host
Occasional train right next to site
1st. Electricity failed my EMS testing, so did not use it. Got enough solar so don’t care
Toilets are porta-potties (plastic houses)
Water pressure good
About 12 sites. Nicely spaced We needed a timeout after a few hectic weeks - this suited us
Small town. Shops ok for topping up supplies
Some small, some large. Some more level than others.
Plenty vegetation for privacy. Some sites overlook the Yukon River
Need to ride ferry to get to town
Excellent hostess Large clean & spacious sites Level, some more trees than others
Starlink works great, zut cell coverage
Did not use any facilities. Nice level , spacious sites. Verizon & ATT had zut coverage but Starlink worked great
$12 ( or $6 for Senior pass)
Great location. Level. Water available. Stopped to restock after Denali visit. Pioneer Park also has some food vendors - had me done tacos
Next to fairly busy road - quietens down overnight, but not completely
5 day limit
Moose Pass Trailhead
As with most BLM trailheads, zut services. Big area, some shaded mostly unshaded but big enough to have your own space
Seaplanes take off from lake during the day - pretty awesome
No onsite services. Seward offers free dump and potable water - near their RV parks
Starlink, Visible/Verizon and Cricket/Att all good
Matanuska River Park campground
$20 to dry-camp. Water station and sani-dump usage included. There are also some sites with electricity - a few more dollars but extremely close together. Saw a few with overlapping awnings
72 is a great site, our 30 ft 5er and f250 fitted in fine, but some caution needs to be exercised when driving. Trees made Starlink coverage a bit spotty. Short walk to River
Small planes continually passing overhead during the day, but not too noisy ( apparently glide path is over us to land, and engines are apparently idling at this time )
Great friendly host
Tired and looking for a place. Tried a state park about 30 miles back - not big rig friendly
Starlink worked well - zut coverage on Cricket nor Visible
Nice open area next to road. Some road noise but road not that busy at night & I used ear plugs
Warning. There are two entrances. One is fairly steep and I would not recommend using it if towing a 5th wheel Starlink worked great. Great walking on lake shore.
No facilities available.
Lovely park with beach side & inter coastal side. We stayed InterCoastal side. Outside loop has more privacy than inside the loop
In 50,000 miles on the road, I have never seen a cleaner shower room facility. I even used their shower facilities ( we’re so picky that we don’t normally use facilities)
We bought annual state pass and apart from that, we paid $39.50 per day for 2 weeks
Note. Dogs not allowed on beach in state park, but a few hundred feet south is a city beach you can use
Hard to reserve - so have to plan a little.
Site number located on elec outlet - situated at tail end of site next to shared water outlet ( two spigots). You’d best like close neighbors, cos they’re thrown in ( for no additional charge) had 30/50 and water - no sewer. Honeywagon service twice a week - $12 per. There was a bathhouse, pretty average. Good pressure , plenty hot.
Laundry avl In bathhouse
Had to detach F250 as site was a tad not level. No long enough to park on site, so parked next to 5th wheel.
Verizon and Visible were both great. Verizon was higher speeds- but that is to be expected
Office personnel and guests all really friendly and accommodating.
This is my first stay in a seasonal park. Stumbled into a wonderful group of seasonal campers, almost like a family. Really interesting experience
Needed to stay longer than anticipated, and they let us stay in an open field. Will come again if in the area
Axtel Campground KY
Overall we enjoyed the campground. Lake really low, water warm - but able to kayak. The weekend was close to 100% occupancy, and although busy- the activity and noises were all happy sounds of kids playing.
The layout is a tad lacking. Generally sites are a lot closer than most COE we have been to- all over the country. Actually find this in AK, TN & KY.
Also, dump station could be better located. It’s down one of the two main (& narrow) roads, so as checkouts start happening there is a slow moving queue for the awkwardly designed dump stations.
Data Per Starlink webpage, this is an unsupported area. At site 116 we have the Dishy about 20/30 feet from RV, and no obstructions. Upload is not wonderful, but download is enough to stream on multiple devices simultaneously.
Verizon and ATT not so good here though
We changed from ‘the other side’ , site 17 near to campground entrance. Whilst there we streamed on Verizon, too many trees for Starlink.
The dump station and dumpsters are a lot closer to 116 - and although the site is nicer in most measures, the bloody flies are driving us nuts.
Did not use facilities, so cannot comment on them
Looking forward to our 10 day reservation. Arrived a little early , and the old man at the entrance was so bloody rude. All he could get out of his mouth was ‘you can’t get in till three, so you gotta leave’. He told me ‘you can go back to where you came from’. His arm was in a sling so maybe he was in pain and is not normally so rude, but we cancelled
Lovely dispersed site. Dispersed. Camp where you will Few long drop toilets & dumpsters No water / electricity
7870 feet high
If you love remote. This area is it
One in, it is great. No Verizon, Visible or Cricket cell service but Starlink works well.
Although some sites could take 30 ft, there is no maneuvering room as road In narrow. Other drive thru sites might work, but slide out would hit tree and stairs came down on bush. Site 12 was open and easy enough to back into
Sight is great ( if you ignore vault toilet behind us)
