We arrived after dark and we’re mostly trying to find somewhere to camp. There are great views of the stars, the river is very close to the campground, and it’s only about 20 minutes from silverthorn. The spots are pretty close together and there is a decent amount of traffic noise during the day but it dies down in the night. The bathrooms are well maintained, there is trash located near them and each site has a picnic table and bear box. Overall a nice place for a quick getaway.
We came here last minute because we were unable to get to a different site with our car. We were here the end of April and it was a little chilly but not uncomfortable. The surrounding forest is BEAUTIFUL and you can get peaks of the mountains through the trees. We tent camped and it was very quiet with no ambient noise and you can see tons of stars. There was an already built fire pit and the ground is pretty flat in areas for tents. It is dispersed and there are no facilities, we could see another tent but never heard other campers. There was the occasional car on the dirt road but not excessive. I can see that it could get pretty dusty but our site was about 50 ft from the road and it was fine. In the morning I was awakened by lots of bird sounds, would highly recommend this site.
We tent camped and the spaces are well maintained and include a little fire pit, picnic table, place for your car, and fairly flat space for the tent. It’s easy to get to from the highway, but that’s also the downside because you can hear all of the traffic. The bathrooms were clean and have a code to enter, we arrived at night to just get a spot so we didn’t have a packet to tell us the code but another camper gave it to us. Overall a nice and convenient spot.
I spent 2 nights at this campsite with my friends. It’s really the bare minimum you could expect from a campsite, fire pit and flat space for tents but the views and proximity to the sand dunes are great. There is no bathroom and no trees but the sites are fairly spread out. The big white dogs that live at the campground spent some time with us and they are very sweet, some horses were also in the field behind the campground for a night and we saw some swift foxes one morning as well. There is limited cell service at the site and getting to it and it can even be a little difficult to determine where the sites are in the daylight, so it would not exactly be recommended to arrive in the dark.
