Just a 30-45 min drive outside Denton, a great spot for a weekend getaway. The water is so clear! The sites are wonderfully private with lots of space and shade. Most of them have water access.
This is one of my favorite parks to kayak or canoe at! You can rent them right there at the dock. You can rent jet skis, as well! You can’t get to the famous Hells Gate from the park, but if you take the loop through a private community called Sportsman’s World, you will run right into a view of it.
This is a great place to bring kids. There is an on-site store, as well as galleries that talk about what it was like when dinosaurs roamed N Texas. The tracks don’t disappoint! There is also a great swimming spot at the first track site.
The drive-in campgrounds aren’t very private… and the tails around the campground make it easy for people to walk through your site. Something to keep in mind if you camp with your pets, or want privacy.
One of my all-time favorites. I happily drive over three hours to camp here… Dogs are not allowed, but service dogs are. Just call them in advance and let them know. It is CASH ONLY. Also, be careful how far you venture. It’s easy to accidentally trespass on someone else’s unfenced property (is just across from the spring).
Bring a floatie! It’s a great place for a Texas summer camp.
