Campers' Paradise is island camping that you get to by driving across a 1 lane road to get to the island. There are lakefront sites or interior sites but this is as close to beach front camping as you will get in MN! The lake front sites have their own sandy walk in to the water. The sites are separated by trees/brush so you feel that they are really private. There's a nice beach/play area for the kids and the bathrooms are really clean.
This is an older campground but well cared for. Because of covid there aren't weekend bundles for activities and everything needed to be purchased separate. One of the nice things is that they can charge everything back to the site so there's no need to carry money. The pool was nice and the waterslide was fun but the river tubing was the best. They shuttle you out and pick you up. The sites are pull through but narrow. We knew our neighbors so we parked the trucks on one site so we could all sit around the fire.
We really enjoyed our time at this State Park. The trails we fun to hike and the many waterfalls were beautiful. There was a swimming hole with a river that flows into it that makes the water warmer than the traditional Superior cold. The reason I gave it a 3 instead of a 4 is because everything was closed due to the employees having been furloughed so no giftshop and we had to go to the gas station for wood. The Park is beautiful but it was strange without staff.
They start their booking for the year on January 1st. We called all day long (4500 times not kidding) and finally got a spot. We liked it so much we booked a 2nd trip later this summer. Lodge is beautiful and full of games, good playground and the swim area is fantastic! We rented a pontoon for the day and beached it on one of the many islands the lake has.
This was a great campground that offered many different types of camping. If you like to camp in the open, with alot of tree coverings or in a cabin that had many different options. They also have a pool (wasn't open yet) Lazer tag and mini golf as well. The weekend we stayed was a buy one night get one free so we camped the weekend for under $60!
This is a quiet no frills campground. The sites are nice and private with trees separating the sites. The shower/bathrooms are great. They also have the hole in the ground toilets spread around the campgound. The hiking trails are great leading you to multiple waterfalls and to Lake Superior. My only issue with this campground is that there isnt any play area for kids.
Theres plenty to do in the areas surrounding this State Park. We drove the Gunflint Trail, went to Lutsen and shopped around Grand Marais. Voyageur Brewing is a fun brewery with good beer.
We stayed here over Memorial weekend and had a blast--there were so many fun things to do! We hiked, took trout fishing lesson, sat at the beach and had relaxing evenings by the fire. If you can give up electricity for a couple days I think the best sites are along the water. Theres a slow flowing spring fed river running behind site 70 (and a couple sites on either side of it) that have paths down to the water where you can sit and fish or just enjoy the sound of the water running past. There are 2 campgrounds at this State Park and the older one where we stayed will unfortunately be closed for the 2020 camping season for renovations.
This was a nice (Big) campground. We had a large, private pull through site. There was a pool and a slow water slide for the kids. Didnt spend a ton of time there because we were there in mid June and it was still chilly. The campground had fun activities for the kids. Bathrooms were nice.
This campground is at a casino. It's a simple place to stay with no frills. We stayed in site 6 on the water. The sites are tight but there is a nice open space where your firepit is close to the water. We prefered site 4 so we will be staying there this year. Theres a nice place to put your kayak in under a huge tree. The bathrooms/showers are in the casino. They are clean. We had to borrow a 50 amp plug in because we only had our 30.
We had so much fun staying at Spirit Mountain, visiting Duluth and Gooseberry Falls. The campgrounds were very private due to tree cover but it rained every night and never dried out because of the tree cover so it's a plus and a minus. There was a big slope to get down to our firepit which we didn't care for. If we would stay again we would book site 50 or 52.
Bluff Valley camp ground is a large camp ground. The premium sites are larger than average and have electric/water hook ups. For the last 3 years we have stayed river front in the "field" and really enjoy it. They have a pool, video games, driving range and park but the draw from this camp ground for us is sitting in the river and relaxing watching the tubers go by.
This was our first week long stay at a campground. We had so much fun and left with a list of things we wanted to do next year. The lakes are quiet and peaceful with easy access for kayaks/canoes from Bearpaw campground. There are great biking trails that will lead you through the park to the Mississippi Headwaters. There is also a beach where you can rent bikes, boats and kayaks. This park has miles of hiking trails that we have yet to do.
The campgrounds themselves were a nice size. We had a lake front lot and really enjoyed the view and easy access to the lake and bike trails. The bathrooms were big and clean. Bring your bug spray--the horseflys are huge!
After months of winter the first trip of the season is something we look forward to. The sites a Baker Park Reserve are larger than average. This is a big campground with a lot of paved bike trails and a nice lake a short walk away.
This was our first time staying here. The lake front sites are small width wise but your view of the lake makes up for it and helps the site feel more spacious. This is a family run campground and it definitely has that feel--their customer service is outstanding. They escorted us to our site and directed us while we backed in. We also rented a pontoon for the afternoon for a reasonable rate of $60/4 hours.
