We have always camped in the lower campgrounds in this area but on our last trip out they were all full. So we ended up all the way up here at Iron City and I am so glad we did. We will stay here from now on if we are coming out to this area. Very remote beautiful sites that are all in the trees, lots of shade and space to enjoy. Its just outside of St Elmo which is an amazing old ghost town with lots of life still. And some really good off-roading and hiking in the area. Plus Chalk Lake, the falls, and the hot springs are all pretty close.
This was just an overnight stay for us as we passed through the area, but we will hopefully be back to check it out closer. Lots to do for the whole family! We stopped in on a Tuesday and I was shocked at how busy it was, but the sites are large enough that you have plenty of space for yourself. Facilities were decent.
This camp ground is great if you’re just passing through MO. Right off of interstate but far enough into the trees that you can’t even tell you’re that close. Lots of sites, great amenities, very polite and helpful personal. Easy hike to the cave.
This is a very private peaceful little camp. Nice flat sites with fire pits and tables. Primitive sites but generators are allowed until 10pm. Right on the river and close to the Fort. Very polite and helpful park personal.
I prefer more primitive campgrounds but we needed electricity for a friend's CPAP. Very nice clean facility. Staff is terrific and do an amazing job preparing each site after they are vacated. Lower campground is beautiful. It's down in the trees and right on the river. Upper is nice just not much shade. Amenities are good. Clean showers and bathrooms, laundry and a small store. Showers cost unfortunately. I would stay here again even though I like the primitive campgrounds better but I'd make sure it was in the lower section.
I usually prefer camping more primitive but we needed electricity for a friend's CPAP. The amenities are great, very clean showers and bathrooms. Nice little store on the facility. Sites are tight to each other and dirty and unkept in my opinion. But if you are just needing a place to crash as we were while we spent the days offroading, it works. A bonus is that they offer an all you can eat ice cream buffet every evening. We would stay again if we had similar needs.
Nice large camp ground with some electric hookup sites and a full bathhouse with showers. Cool wooden bridge that you have to cross to get into the campground. Some great areas to be able to play in the river and you can hike up the mountain right out of camp. The only draw back for us was the sites are really close together. So not very private.
This is probably my family's favorite area to camp in Colorado. Off the beaten path enough that traffic is minimal. But nice and close to some great four wheel and off roading areas.
It's been years since we stayed here but for a free camp ground is perfect.
We added this to a trip a few years back and we were so glad that we did. First: the camp grounds are great some really nice private sites. Not a lot of shade though. Great bathhouse with nice showers and a small store close to the camp grounds. Second: the cliff dwellings are incredible! We only had time for one tour but we will be back to check out the others.
We loved camping here. If you don't like a lot of people then staying on the east side of the canyon is so much better. Terrific camp ground and the host is the best you'll find!
We just needed a place to stop for the night and this was a great camp ground. Very very nice and clean facilities.
Camp ground is nice. Not much shade but the lakes are really cool to explore. Very nice facilities.
Beautiful canyon. We loved riding our motorcycles through. Camp ground is great make sure and get reservations during the peak time.
Great camp ground with a lot of amenities. Nice well cared for spots with lots of shade. May want to consider reservations.
What an amazing place to spend some time. Great campground, if you don't have a generator make sure and stay at the quieter lope that doesn't allow them. All of the camping spots are really nice though. And the little store on site was so nice!
This is a great camp ground on 14. It's of of the road enough that the noise isn't an issue, also right on the water. There are a couple of great sites that are private and shaded. Still close enough to Fort Collins if you need to run in. Also very close to Mishawaka, great place to grab a bite and maybe a show.
If you need to be close to Fort Collins or early in the season this is an ok campground. To close to the road and usually very busy. Sites are nice and shaded though and really close to the river. But there are much better camp grounds on up 14.
We happen to be close to this area visiting family and thought let's go check out this swamp. We were so glad we did but we didn't have enough time to see it all so we will be back! Great camp ground very nice facilities. Very very nice people working and running it. Cool nature trail that's all elevated out over the swamp. Saw a couple of alligators.
Very private secluded camp ground. Very clean and nice facilities. The host was terrific. We lost power in the middle of the night (no AC! Yikes) but the host was right on it and did what they could. Very beautiful lake I could have sat looking over it for days.
