One of the best State campsite!

Goblin Valley is a drive, but a beautiful State Park Campsite. The amazing formations are on your doorsteps! There are 24 site campground, 1 group site, and 2 yurts with centrally located restroom and shower facilities. Yes, I said showers!! And pretty clean and maintained showers/ restrooms. Because of the limited numbers of campsites, do plan ahead. You will need to stay a few days!! And if you enjoy mountain biking!! Don’t forget to carry it.. there are many off roading bike routes! This place is very much kid friendly.

If the weather is right, visit the Wild Horse Slot Canyon, 8 miles round trip. There are so many trails and hikes in the surrounding area. Have fun!!

KOA Ouray

As always KOA didn’t disappoint us. Ouray is such a beautiful place, and to come “home” and rest in a peaceful place was even better! There are stream sites and open gravel sites. I really enjoyed their text message service for firewoods, ice or questions..

Pro: -clean bathroom and shower -breakfast and dinner service.. although food was okay

  • open and space. I loved site #5 (water following right behind us.. it was great to hear the peaceful sound while looking at the amazing stars and skyline, in front of the firepit!)

Con: -close to the main road, especially for sites by the entrance, we could hear cars all the time. -WIFI is there but omg.. good luck catching it..

Amazing campsite!!

Best place to start dispersed camping!! Amazing rock formations, hiking and biking trails all over…

CON:

  1. BRING YOUR OWN DRINKING WATER AND A LOT! (Well water, but a lot of minerals that you can see with..)
  2. It can be warm or cold.. but it is always windy; so windy at times that it feels like your tent all fly away..
  3. Close to the highway, so some sites, beware of highway sound and car passing

PRO:

  1. Amazing sites, especially for dispersed camping!!
  2. Bathroom is basic/ decent. TP but no hand wash station!
  3. Location location location!! Can’t wait to do another short camping trip!
  4. So much to explore! Do visit Hidden Falls! Round trip about 3 hours with kids and bring plenty of water. Kids will totally enjoy the stream and water fall area!
Beautiful, Scenic Lake Camping

Very scenic lake camping. Beautiful formations, lake is clean, and not too busy, especially since we were there during July 4th weekend. Yes, during the day, the parking lot is full, but the campsites were not dust rubbed. My hubby and son enjoyed jumping off the cliff and finding dinosaurs footprints. That was amazing! We did nearby hikes and even made it to Flaming George Dam. A lot of things to do close by!

Camp itself: PRO: -good and helpful staff

  • beautiful place
  • small campsite, so the beach and lake area feels very private!!
  • bathroom was fairly clean

CONS: -NO SHOWER.. Especially being on the lake, at least an outdoor shower would have been helpful. -a lot of ants, spiders and insects on grass area

  • grass area felt very separate from where we parked our camper. We were site number 4. But the site did have the best view of the lake!

I will definitely like to return!! We had a great time at Red Fleet and the surrounding area! Thanks!

We were at campsite 59.

Although this site is a no water/ electric site and next to the horses, we had a blast! Especially the kids. The site was a great size! We went horse back riding, hung out by the river, had s’mores, and even went for an ATV ride!! I was most impressed by how clean the bathrooms were, especially with the current COVID situation! Thank you Winding River Resort for keeping the place clean!
