Campground Review
We arrived late on a Saturday night to BLM campsites along Highway 128 all full (Moab Jeep Safari week). We stopped at Hittle Bottom to ask the camp host where she suggested we dispersed camp. Instead, she invited us to put our tent up behind her spot, in a secluded grove close to the river. Jan was the most gracious host, and even had a fire going for us when we arrived! She is the greatest. The campsite was nice with the cleanest pit toilets I've ever seen! The site is a bit far from the town of Moab but close to some killer hikes and views in the Castle Valley area.

My old camp stove had gotten pretty nasty and started falling apart after cooking on it for over 20 people on a 4-day camping trip. This Primus stove is a lot sturdier and nicer. The side flaps are helpful in preventing wind, and the burner/grill combo is perfect for cooking with or without a campfire roaring. The connector hose for the propane is a bit tricky to hook into the stove, and its compartment under the grill grate is nice- but if there is a mess under the grill grate- it wouldn't be a good spot. Also, the hooks to keep the grill grate attached to the stove body sometimes get bent and are hard to get back to connect into the grill body. Other than those minor issues, the stove is powerful (boils water super quick) and sleek. It's lightweight, but still sturdy enough to hold a large pot of water.
Awesome park in northern NH. Lots of hiking trails and a great firetower in the park. Not too busy either!
Make sure to pack light, the walk is steep! Camping here is so beautiful and just above Yankee Boy Basin. Mt Sneffels trailhead is right there too.
Camped here after hiking to Ice Lakes and Island Lake. It's right at the trail head! The camp hosts were awesome and the spots are beautiful. Great spot.
Great spot to spend the night before a climb of Mt. Cardigan! Or after! The climb is challenging but shouldn't take too long. Great fire tower views at the top too!
This campground is awesome and so close to many white mountain hikes, views, etc. check out the flume and Mt. Jackson as pictured. Gets pretty cold here at night!
Awesome campground that's free! It's only 10 mins from downtown Durango and is so beautiful and quiet. Great hiking trails around too.
This site is great if you're visiting the Moab area but it is the farthest from town. There are lots of closer sites, but this one is only 15 minutes away. Great River views and bouldering too!
Easily accessible from Moab on 128. This site is perfect if you want to explore arches or canyonlands or the greater Moab area. Lots of hikes right near the campsite too. Take a swim in the Colorado River if it's hot in the summer months!
If you're looking for solitude, drive up a canyon road and skip Palisade State Park. It's loud and busy most days of the week in the summer. If you're bringing a group this might be your spot. The lake is nice and the trails around the lake are good for running, 4-wheeling and exploring.
This site is conveniently located right off of the main road and close to so many amazing hikes. On a weekend in July we managed to find an open site or two even at 9pm. Plus we saw a moose in the field near the campground!
Manti Community is located just outside of Manti UT and is easily accessible via a dirt road. It's never full and rarely has any people. There are lots of 4-wheeling trails and a nice waterfall nearby.
This campground is beautiful and in a nice location in the state park but is really crowded in the summer months with large groups of loud children.
Great spot to camp if you're looking to see Schoodic/ a quieter part of Acadia. Little to no crowds ever and the campground is HUGE and brand new! Lots of hiking trails too!
Conveniently located outside of Las Vegas, this spot was great for our group to crash after flying into Vegas and heading to the mountains. Friendly camp host, reservable online, cool in the evenings.
Red Canyon Campground is conveniently located near the road into Bryce Canyon. I would suggest driving down a forest service road though and finding yourself a free campsite. Great views, quiet, free. Can't beat that. Campground is good if you need the amenities.
Our stay at Elkmont was great, a pretty traditional campground in the park, kind of pricey but great location. Make sure to book ahead or show up real early in the summertime!
The group site was great! There was only 20 people allowed at the site but could've held 40. It poured rain all weekend so we made a tarp city and squeezed all of our tents together. Much better deal than getting a bunch of sites near each other!
This place is pretty sweet if you're visiting Lake Powell. The camping is primitive so just drive onto the beach and park and set up where you want. The RVs can be pretty loud and block the view of the lake which sucks. The wind is pretty strong and you will get sand in your tent!
Guanella Pass is a great place to pull over and set up your tent if you're hiking off of the pass (Mt. Bierstadt, etc) or are heading through Georgetown and looking for a place to camp for free! In the late summer nights most easily accessible sites will be snagged but you can always park and walk up or down the hill to find a spot. Looking in the dark is tough, try to arrive before nightfall!
