First I would give no stars really. We did not stay here (but did drive thru the property Oct 2020) We would have preferred a rest stop on the hwy (although we did find a better campground another hour down the road). 90% of the sites were full with what appeared to be full time residents. The RV spots were extremely packed together. And there were a ton of cars parked in any available area. There were a few actual tent sites - without parking, but other “tent sites” were really just a strip of grass. I found the website photo misleading as the lake was fenced off, and it really just felt like a parking lot next to the highway. There was a little market with food and fishing supplies but it looked like you also had to pay to fish. Friendly staff.
Loved this spot as other options were concrete RV parking lots!We were surprised to find a small campground - 7 sites with picnic tables, shades and a drop toilet at the top of hill as we expected just disbursed camping in pull-outs off the few fireroads. The sites were full as we arrived late on a Sat night but we easily found a private spot nearby. There was a group partying on the top of the next hill and you could hear their tecno music and their laughter (which we kinda enjoyed :)) but otherwise it was a quiet place. It is about 15-20 miles off the Hwy and the last 7 or so miles are on a well maintained but narrow gravel road which has a few tight switchbacks near the top. Best for tents, vans and very small trailers. No water or electricity.
This is an off-season review. Late October 2020. Pros: No one else here on a Friday night, easy to find, dispersed camping, no fee, some cell service. Cons: absolutely no services (they remove porta potty and trash after high season), water level in lake VERY low.
Nothing special but we were happy to spend a quiet night here on our long drive south from PNW to LA when most campsites were full or closed (fires and Covid).
This was a great little stop over Campground. Picnic tables, bbq, and fire pits at each site. A few sites are right along the water and we were lucky enough to snag one - beautiful sunset on the water. Basic flush toilets were clean. There is a boat launch. There is a bike path right from the campground that follows the river and leads to downtown Riverwalk area. Only real complaint was that it has a lot of traffic noise (constant hum) and a VERY LOUD train that went by a few times during the night, blowing its whistle. Light sleepers may not be happy.
