Great day and night at Cape Lookout! This campground is just over the dunes from the beach and has a backdrop of giant spruce and pine trees to the east. Spacious grassy sites with fire ring and picnic table. Very clean bathrooms with free hot showers.
Go for a hike to the end of Cape Lookout (trailhead just 2.5 miles up the road). Enjoy your morning coffee and walk along the beach.
*it was very quiet in October, but I was told by a ranger that it is super packed in the summer. Reservations available online.
I visited here for one night in October and it was very quiet. Only 10 other campsites being used. The campground is quite large, however a few loops were closed for post season construction. Beautiful sites and awesome to set up my tent right next to giant Redwoods!
The campground runs along the Smith river, which is beautiful in its own right!
All sites standard with bear box, fire ring and picnic table. Very clean bathrooms and showers. Quarter operated showers. $8/bundle of wood. $35/night. Cash or check only!!
Dont miss the Boy Scout Trail just a few minutes down the road and the Stout Memorial Grove across the river.
This is a beautiful campground in the mid to lower part of the Redwoods. If you are lucky, you can get a site in the meadow area where the elk usually roam in the early morning or play at dusk. There are also plenty of sites set back in the woods. I scored a meadow site, which was great because my tent was wet from the night before, but quickly dried out. Six elk came within 30 feet of my tent as the sun was setting. Pretty awesome!
Firewood available for $8/bundle. Quarters required for showers. $35 cash or check/night. No credit cards!!
Awesome trails among the Redwoods right from the campground/visitor center.
