By far one of the nicest state parks in Colorado. Every site is huge and several pull through are on sides of the hill with sweeping view of Colorado Springs. Nestled up to the Air Force NORAD complex the nature is unspoiled all the way up the mountain. Tons of trails the only sad part is our dogs only have limited trails they are allowed on. Bear, large cats and lots of deer visit regularly (well at least the deer are regular.
Sites are well spread out and the ones on the river are private. This has more of a feeling of a State Park. The pool was drained while we were there but everything else was great. They deliver firewood and ice to your site but be aware there is limited propane refill in this town. The KOA were in process of adding a tank. Folks running the site could not have been nicer. Bear spray is recommended if hiking in the park or the area. It is expensive if you buy it up in this neck of the woods.
Clean organized KOA with nice pool. The site for pull through are alternated so the sewer connections are not underfoot for either side. The sites are very close and only the fenced off sites have fire pits. It is located directly behind several large oil tanks but enough off the highway the traffic is not heard much. Great hills behind property to let larger dogs get their wiggles out of them. Mostly designed for folks passing through the area.
Tucked up on the edge of the woods this little gem is only 3 miles from Leadville. The outer edge sites are far better for views and space but even the site in middle are spaced out enough to have table and fire pit in each spot. The little general store is sparse but has emergency stuff and folks are really nice. They have shower house and bathroom and a huge field next door for the dogs to run. Nights are very quiet and huge dark sky to gaze at the stars.
People running the camp were very nice and place was tidy. The pull through sites are very very close together but it was organized and orderly. Can not review the showers and bathrooms as they were closed due Covid19. They took our reservation last minute as most spots booked around there. Lots of trees shade many of the sites and although right off the interstate it was enough separated we didn't hear traffic at all. It's hit or miss with having a table but as an example we were so close to rig next to us we could barely extend out awning. Again I would stop here anytime for a over night spot traveling through town.
