Extremely Crowded

Luther pass, aka South/North Truckee Rd, was extremely crowded. I would suggest arriving early to get a decent spot. We ended up going onto North Truckee Rd and found a pull off wide enough for our truck and rooftop tent.

South Truckee Rd did have toilets about the halfway point of the approximately 2-3 mile long loop. Be mindful that this some spots are right next to a busy Highway.

Overall, would return again and arrive at an earlier time.

No Camping On Flats

You cannot camp on the salt flats but you can camp on the BLM property right north of the flats. The road will Y branch to the left of going to the parking spot of the flats. Follow the road north and there will be two dirt roads that branch on the right of it. You can camp at any dirt pad.

Beautiful Overlook of the Flats

This spot has gorgeous views of the flats and the mountains. However, it can get windy. It was 6-8 mph winds when we stayed and our rooftop tent was not exactly happy about it.

Populated

This area was very populated and it was difficult to find a good spot. We ended up taking an OHV road to find a good location. When we did, it was perfect. Previous fire ring and very spacious.

Definitely recommend getting in early and having a high clearance vehicle to take the back roads.

Secluded

This place was beautiful! We found a spot right next to the water and fell asleep to the sound of it.

Where we found was a very large pull off, minimal road traffic. It was perfect for the night before we continued our road trip.

Beautiful

As it states, the road is not very traveled but it is loaded with campers. We drove about 5 miles in to find an open area that had a previous campfire ring still there.

Would definitely come back earlier in the day to get a better spot though!

Be mindful, the temperatures dropped to 40s at night. We were bundled up to combat the chill.

Quiet & Relaxing

The pin, as other have said, only takes you to the trailhead. We continued about 3 miles farther along the road where there was many bigger pull offs. Spent two nights here before heading west again. The Pilot in Monument has showers and was an added bonus for being 15 minutes from our spot.
