St. Mary Sites

One of the most scenic places to stay overnight with the view of St.Marys lake right in front of you! Hikes nearby are Gunsight pass and Virgina Falls and Rising Sun Campground is tight around the corner! Popular site to stay in the summer due to tourist hiking and backpacking.

Blodgett Sites

Easy Bitteroot hike and spectacular views all around and in the valley of where your hiking! Very common and popular hike so be prepared to see lots of people! Fun area with rigid mountains all around you. Only 20-30 minutes from Missoula. Worth it!

Salmon Sites

This is a lake campground so every spot is really the best. Bring your boat with all the toys you have! Nearby hikes are in the Mission Mountains.

Kootenai Sites

This is an easy trail with loads of climbers above you hooting and hollering! Very fun trail as it runs along a river so the view never gets old. Accessible Bitterroot hike. Trail is moderate and an all day excursion as the lake is far back there. Summer Time or winter time is my favorite time to do this hike. Not crowded unless good weather.

McDonald Sites

One of the best camping all day Sites you can find but it’s limited! Theres only about 5 spots on the lake and it’s in Tribal area so if you hike or backpack in there you need to be permitted. You can drive your car right up to the lake and either car or tent camp! Paddle boarding is pretty common at this lake especially when it’s hot out. The drive from Missoula takes about 20-30 minutes and well worth it.

Many Glacier Sites

This is by far my favorite place to camp because of the hikes that are nearby. Grinnell Glacier, Iceberg Lake, Cracker Lake, and Ptarmigan Tunnel are the favorites because of there turquoise waters. if you want a secluded spot go to Cracker Lake, there are only 3 spots out there and it’s insanely beautiful! Grinnell Glacier is an all day hike and same with most of the hikes there. Make sure to get your backcountry permit before heading out or the rangers will find and stop you.

RisingSun Sites

Every time I stay at this campsite there are always bears and deer everywhere so just be bear aware. If you drive through the park on the Sun Road you can reach it a little past Jackson’s glacier overlook. Great , smaller campground with only about 20-30 spots. Easy access of Sun Road and all the hikes in the park.

Two Medicine

One of my favorite places to camp because it’s secluded off on East Glacier and has about 30-50 campsites available. Again, summer is crowded but worth it to stay here a few nights. The hiking is challenging with Dawson/Pitamakan Pass which is around 20-22 miles round trip but one of the best views being up at the top of all the mountains. Bear frequenting so bring bear spray!

Sprague Sites

This is a great campsite area especially with Lake McDonald being right there. Drive up the Sun Road a few miles and you hit Sprague Creek. If you don’t Iike crowds as much this is a good spot for you. It has about 15-20 spots rather than Apgar which has about 100 or so. Great views and easy access to lots of hikes!

Apgar Sites

There are plenty of camping sites here. There’s Loop A, B, C, D, E. Busy during the summer so get there early as you can. That goes for hikes as well, if you don’t like crowds get up as early as you can. You see lots more animals that way too! Very family friendly area with Lake McDonald views and the Sun Road.

Kreis Pond

Great secret camping spot. There’s only about 5 spots and summer will be crowded when it’s hot and awesome weather! Bring tubes to float around the water and hammock to hang around. Neat, fun area especially with the Sleeping Woman hike so close. Once you drive up the mountain, the trailhead is off to the left and it’s a heavy incline to the top so be prepared with lots of water and an awesome view at the end. 360 view of the Missoula Valley, Bitteroot Mountain Range, Flathead in the distance and Mission Mountains as well.
