FEATURES:

-RV's back up against the canyon rim and have a beautiful backdrop.

-RV sites are full hook up and come with a picnic table.

-Tent sites surround a nice green space with a covered gazebo patio.

-There's a nice walking trail (Matt's Trail) that takes you around the campground along the canyon edge (level: easy). There's also a BLM trail (Crooked River Trail) you can access from the campground that takes you down to the water (level: moderate to hard).

-There's a well-built overlook patio to sit on and enjoy the view.

CONS:

-no wood or charcoal fires. Only propane grills.

-Weak wifi. Couldn't even grab it with our extender.

Great stay. Very quiet at night due to it being off the road. Being by the canyon is peaceful and scenic. The Terrebonne area provides a ton of hiking activities. Smith Rock State Park is just down the road.

PROS:

-A firepit with wood is provided for guests. The owner says he sometimes hosts "Smore Nights," for guests in peak season. 

-a propane grill is also available for use.

-Our back-in site for our 30 amp travel trailer wasn't too hard to get in too.

-Good wifi, though there weren't that many other people in the park at the time we were there.

-The campground is on a river, though you can't really sit by it or see due to growth along the banks.

-The office was closed when we were there, but according to their website, they have local beer, wine, and snacks for sale.

CONS:

-Bathrooms are small, two showers, two stalls.

-Our site was unlevel so we needed our levelers.

Overall a fine stay. We didn't hear the road much at all inside our trailer. We enjoyed sitting out on the picnic table at our site. Owners very nice.

FEATURES:

-Primarily an RV park, but there are grassy spots right on the fishing pond for tent campers.

-Spots for short-term stays are pull-thrus with full hookups. A little slice of grass separates each RV.

-WiFI was good and seemed to reach throughout the park. The fishing pond is nice to sit by and watch the ducks.

-"The Greenbelt," a 3 mile paved path can be accessed right at the front of the campground. It crosses an old train bridge and then runs along the water.

-The restrooms were clean, and well serviced. Really nice and bright laundry room.

-Super friendly owners.

PROS:

-Sites here are easy pull-thrus with full hookups.

-A nice little patch of grass spaces out RV's and gives each site its own outdoor space.

-WiFi was good for browsing and reached throughout the park

-A short path leads to a public launch on the Snake River.

-The office is also a diner with breakfast and lunch. Order and have it delivered directly to your site.

-bathrooms are heated and private (toilet and shower together)

CONS:

You can kind of hear the highway, but honestly only when you're down by the river.

We stayed here on our way through Nephi. Friendly, Privately owned campground. Lots of pull-through spots. Beautiful mountain backdrop.

Bathrooms, though old, are kept clean.

Wifi is not strong and we couldn't grab it with our extender.

RV spots are flat gravel and full hook-ups.

Though the campground is right on the road, it's not a busy one and you don't really hear cars when inside.

We booked a private guided horseback ride with the ranch and stayed here in our trailer for five days. Our stay was incredible: quiet, peaceful, and amidst the backdrop of beautiful Utah BLM land. Our guided 2-hour ride in the nearby slot canyon was fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend riding with the amazing team at the ranch. 

We had 30 amp electric and water hookups, though some sites are just electric. The dump site may or may not be in service, ask before booking. 

The restrooms and showers onsite are immaculate. Very clean, new, and well designed.

*Again, this is a private ranch first, not an RV campground. Stays here require a reservation. The owner dislikes people just driving onto the property. Call ahead.

PROS: 

• Some sites are right on the Colorado river.
• Beautiful mountain ranges in the background.
• Full amenities at this park including showers and restrooms.
• Our site had a nice fire pit and grill, where you could simultaneously cook over coals while still having a nice fire going in the other area of the pit.
• This campground is near a lot of incredible hiking opportunities.

CONS:

• Our site was right underneath a bright lamp that shined into our tent and made it hard to sleep. We were at the site next to the walkway down to the river. Sites next to the bathrooms will also deal with night lamps.
• Tent sites are gravel, which isn't so bad except the whole are kind of slopes down to the river, making sleeping flat difficult.

Overall a well maintained and friendly park. Would come again.

Though about 15 miles off the interstate, this park is WORTH the detour. 

RV sites are full hookup and some are easy pull-throughs. Some sites also have nice firepits and shade pavilions. Grounds are well maintained, relaxing, and peaceful. The desert landscape here shines as there is nothing around for miles (very quiet). 

DEFINITELY recommend booking a private hot spring tub after dark. The stars are INCREDIBLE. Tubs are the perfect temperature. Overnight guests have access to a 24 hour pool. 

Staff are incredibly friendly and a small provisions store onsight sells anything you might've forgotten, plus firewood.

We loved staying here for a night on our drive through West Texas, the perfect midway stopping point. This state park is a nice natural respite from the noise and lights of oil country and towns. 

Easy pull-through sites and well-maintained bathrooms. Sunsets and sunrises here are stunning. Feels like you're in a foreign desert.

Nothing negative to say about our stay here!

Ken, the owner, is very friendly and helpful and introduced himself on our first day here. Our pull through spot on gravel was level and clean. The grounds are very well kept and decorated with Texas charm. The office is well lit with bistro lights after dark, for late arrivals.

Spotless communal areas include the bathrooms, kitchen, and wash house. A small swimming pool looks to be fun in the warmer months.

The town of Denton is nearby with plenty of grocery options, shopping, and cute restaurants. Don’t miss Thai Square if you love Thai food.

Overall, a very affordable campground with exceptional service and cleanliness. Cute alpacas and friendly watch dogs are an added bonus!

*though this park is technically an “airstream” park, it allows non airstream RV’s for camping, just add a slightly higher nightly price.

PROS:

PAVED SITES: the terraport area for RV’s is nicely paved, smooth and flat. Sunsets here on the hill are lovely.

BATHROOM: bathrooms are cleaned regularly.

COMMUNITY: the airstream community that lives here permanently are very friendly and plan many community events open to all, like bean bag baseball and soup night.

GATED: the community is gated at night with a code which makes the place feel more secure than other off-the-highway campgrounds.

CONS:

LOCATION: there’s nothing much in Hillsboro, not even good restaurants. The nearest HEB grocery is over 30 minutes away. This campground is great for stopping through, but a pain if you’re looking for a long term stay with nearby things to do.

LOUD: the highway is close by and pretty loud, though when you’re inside your rig it’s unlikely you’ll hear it.

Overall we had a pleasant stay here. Our biggest annoyance was having to drive far for groceries, restaurants or for overall civilization. The people here are super friendly and love their airstreams.

PROS:

*CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN: you can’t camp in your RV any closer to downtown Fayetteville than at Southgate. There are no other campgrounds as close to the main square and all the action of restaurants, breweries etc (there is just one other campground in the town but it is a membership campground for people who frequent the football games)

*FRIENDLY OWNER: I believe his name is Jim. He’s a nice guy and cleans the bathrooms daily. It was cold while we were there and he kept a space heater on in the bathroom, even when there were just a few of us in the campground.

*CLOSE TO BIKE TRAIL: the Razorback trail and network of bike trails (which can take you all the way to Bentonville) are just a few blocks down the road from Southgate. This is a great way to get downtown without driving and trying to find parking.

*FLAT SITES: sites are pretty level with a small concrete pad for wheels.

CONS:

*NOISE: you are right next to a busy road, but you can’t really hear it when inside your camper. You’re also next to a Tyson Factory which burps and belches 24/7.

*BATHROOMS: the bathrooms and showers are old, but kept clean.

Overall, we had a nice stay at Southgate. It was a great campground for exploring the food, drink, and shops of Fayetteville. Though it wasn’t the most scenic campground, it was very convenient.

Fayetteville Recommendations: Fork and Crust Pie Shop, Fayetteville Farmers market on the square on Saturday mornings, crisis brewery, crystal bridges art museum in Bentonville, basecamp coffee, ozark foods coop for grocery, nightbird books.

This campground is very well maintained with all the amenities you could need: a small camping store, communal kitchen, firepits, and clean bathrooms. Check out the office for fun seasonal events like group hikes and geocaching contests. 

Located in the Norwest suburb of Palatine, this campground is super accessible from Chicago and a fun getaway for suburban camping. Grocery stores and modern conveniences are minutes away. From the campground you have access to the entire Deer Park preserve and it's paved cycling and walking trails.

Cook County residents get a nice discount, as do veterans. Rates go up on the weekends. A one week limit for all stays unless you get approval from higher-ups. 

RV spots are concrete, flat, and easy to get into. 

Overall, a very clean and well-loved sem-urban camping experience.

You can’t get closer to the beach than at these beach access campsites. Nightly sunsets here will knock your sandals off. A majority of the RV sites here are occupied by locals who buy out the spot for the season and come in to enjoy it on the weekends.

PROS:

The beach: Weko is a lovely local beach. Sand is soft and the water is shallow far out into the surf. A food and sundries shop is on premise. SUP and kayak rentals are also on the beach.

Bridgman: the town of Bridgman is super cute. Three local breweries are in town, along with a wine tasting room and local food restaurants.

CONS:

The bathrooms: Weko Beach campground bathrooms leave much to be desired. They are co-Ed and each shower stall has a locking door. Bathrooms are old, but cleaned daily. Lack of airflow has lead to mold and mildew growth.

Sandy campsite: this campground is not paved since it is in and amongst the dunes. Therefor, the soil is sandy and often soft. We got our airstream stuck using our 2 wheel drive truck and needed the help of a 4x4 to get us out. Some sites are flat while others are on a hill.

OTHER:

There are 2 RV loops, and one primitive loop. Primitive sites have porta -Johns.

During the summer there are live music concerts out on the beach.

You can grab the campground WiFi only if you’re standing outside the office.

Don’t discount this campground, we found it did not live up to the angsty hype of the sour reviewers on google and Campendium. We had a very enjoyable and safe stay at Camper’s Paradise in Grand Haven.

Yes, the staff are very strict on the 5 MPH speed limit. But if you respect this rule, you’ll have a perfectly fine stay. Those who have kids or pets will probably find they like the enforced speed limit so their kids can play about without imminent danger.

And yes, the campground is not a quiet, silent getaway. A quick look at a map can tell you it is close to a highway. However, the road noise is not obnoxious and quickly drowns out as background noise. Anyone in a trailer won’t notice it. It’s mostly primitive campers and light sleepers who may need ear plugs. The advantage to its urban location is its proximity to Grand Haven Beach and Rosy Mound, both bike riding distance.

Bathhouses, though old, have been recently re-tiled and are cleaned daily.

RV spots are dirt, and nicely shaded. A fire ring and picnic table are provided at each spot.

Don’t get scared from the bad reviews. This campground was a welcome rescue when our other reservation fell through. Yes, it’s an urban campground and yes, the staff are vigilant about their rules. But none of this prevents having a good time enjoying the outdoors in Grand Haven.

Lakefront access makes this a super cool camping spot for your rig. But the RV area is a concrete parking lot where you’re feet from your neighbors. The whole area is well kept and there’s tons to do on the beach (grills, volleyball, game) etc. Very busy spot during the day in the nice weather months. Fourth of July week was packed.

Book a weekend at Heritage Alpaca Farm (be it in a tent, RV, historic cabin, or forest tensile) and you will not regret it. This well-kept farm is tended to by incredible hosts, Tim & Beth. They have put much love into their inviting and scenic country haven. 

As RV campers, we pulled into the circular driveway and parked with ease. A 30 amp hookup and water spigot are available within the recreation barn (along with ping-pong and often times Frost, the friendly Great Pyranese). From your rig you have a view of a small alpaca pasture and their covered event space.

Around the barn is a private fire pit, and Tim provided firewood upon request. Private toilets are a few steps away which are very clean. 

WHAT MAKES HERITAGE FARM A GEM:

SUNSETS: We loved walking the grounds at dusk, enjoying epic sunsets and watching the fireflies light up, as far as the eye can see. The bicentennial barn is stunning and wonderfully restored. It's great for an excellent up-close look at the alpacas. Tim is a wealth of knowledge about the docile creatures and happy to answer any questions.

FRESH EGGS: We enjoyed farm fresh eggs every morning from their free-range chickens.

COOL CREEK: A small creek runs across the back of their property. On a hot Summer day, it's a nice place to sit and cool off.

ITALIAN PIZZA: An Italian style wood-fired outdoor pizza oven on the grounds is fired up for community pizza nights. Check with hosts to see when they are doing their next pizza night al fresco.

ALPACA STORE: A boutique on property sells luxury alpaca goods like scarves, wraps, socks, and more. The perfect place to pick up Christmas gifts. In November, a local artisan market is hosted here.

BIKING: The roads around the farm are quiet and smooth and make for excellent bike riding.

SWING: A swing on the property is a fun pastime for kids….Or for a small adult with a childlike spirit :)

*The town of Kokomo offers any groceries or amenities you need and is only a 20-minute drive.

Land of the Arches is popular among climbers and boy scout troups. The hanger is an excellent place for hanging out and meeting new people. Ping pong and pickleball courts keep everyone entertained. Good wifi is provided within the hangar.

LOTA is close to a lot of hiking trails and climbing. We did an 8-mile kayak down the Red River. Tons to do outdoors in this area of the Red River Gorge.

Buy groceries before getting to this campground. The nearest grocery store is a SAVE-A-LOT, 20 minutes away.

Hookup was 30 amp. No water hookup but water is available onsite for your freshwater tank. Dump site also provided.

Bathrooms are in the hanger and clean and well lit at night.

Miguel's is a climber's mecca. Camping is primitive, but a big shower hall with a number of stalls, and covered areas for cooking offers all the amenities a "dirtbag," climber could need. It's a great place to hang with a network of passionate climbers. 

Miguel's pizza is damn good pizza, by any standards. It's also open every day of the week, unlike other restaurants in the area which usually operate Thursday-Sunday when visitors are at their peak. Miguel's also serves coffee, breakfast burritos, and sweet potato pancakes which are incredible and affordable. 

A comprehensive rock climbing gear shop is on-premise if you follow the path around back to the basement of the house at the bottom of the hill. An array of clothes, climbing shoes, chalk and climbing gear will have you covered for whatever route you decide to do.

A lot of climbing routes give directions starting from Miguel's, which tells you what a central point it is for the climbing industry here.

Wilson's is right on the French Broad River and is neighbors to "French Broad Outfitters,"-a company that rents kayaks, canoes, and tubes to take down the river. We wandered through Wilson's while renting from French Broad Outfitters and wished we had stayed here. If we had, we would've been at FBO every evening. They have a bar and outdoor games like corn hole, making it an awesome spot to chill with a beer and hang by the river. 

Wilson's spots don't offer a ton of shade, but being by the river is a huge plus. The French Broad River Greenway, a shared bike path, runs right through the campground and is great for taking you to nearby places by bike, like Carrier Park or ClimbMax Climbing Gym.
