Open in winter - sort of.

Open year round but, water and electric are off September 30 through May 1. There are no vault toilets in campground. 1/4 mile away flush toilets are open year round. $30 per night for developed sites (no senior discount). $18 per night for undeveloped sites with no water or electric. Senior discount ok. (There are no undeveloped sites unless you count the developed sites in winter when power and water are off.

November 5 I was the only one there. No trees or shrubs anywhere.

November camping and no locked gate!!

I was looking for a nearby geocache and discovered this campground was close by.  I didn't camp but I was impressed by such a nice campground not being closed in the winter!

Fantastic dispersed camping.

Literally dozens of good dispersed camp sites along this rough road.  Amazing find so close to Mt Rushmore.  Elevation is about 5500 feet.  I camped in November and the water bottle in my tent froze.  In the morning it was only  a 10 minute drive to the memorial.  With the sun in my eyes it was too late when I saw the deer.  (:-(

Perfect out of the way campground

Visited during November and I had the place to myself. Thankfully there is no locked gate!

Best campgroung for off season camping.

My kinda place.  The Campground, restrooms, showers, and water are open year round. It earns my best favorite for the year.

The critter that ran off with my flip-flops during the night is another story.  Do you know how hard it is to find new ones at this time of year?  Lucky I carry emergency backup flip-flops!  ~{;-)

Nice campground with one problem.

There are plenty of campsite in the lower area that are very close to the water and good for RV people who do not care for privacy (like camping on a golf course).  If you want privacy, go for the upper area which is completely forested with plenty of trees and brush between sites.  I was in site 17 and was totally pleased… With one exception.

I paid full price for this site.  But, the restrooms. showers, and water were shut off.  If I am paying full high season rates, I want full services!!!!!!  I appreciate there is no padlocked gate keeping people out in the off season.  But, if it easy to turn off the water, showers, and bathrooms, it should also be easy to create a reduced rate for reduced services.  Some other County, State, and Federal campgrounds charge nothing for no services off season camping.  What is Minnesota's problem?  Give people what they pay for!!!

This is purely a ripoff.  It left me with a very unpleasant memory of this area and Minnesota.

Closed for the season.

No information about alternates.  No loop left unlocked.  Not useful at all.

Same for all campgrounds within 20 miles.

Convenient stopover

Technically closed for the season but, no one pressing the point.

Closed.

Oh dear. Oh dear. 8PM and here I sit looking at yet another locked gate.

Hike in undeveloped camp.

There is a old road behind several permanently closed gates that after .2 miles leads to the back of the swamp to an old campsite marker (at the posted coords). No evidence of camping in many years.

Another padlocked campground.

No camping here in the fall. But, the boat ramp to the north makes a decent dispersed site.

First to Review
Another padlocked campground.

I guess we are not supposed to go camping in the fall.

Your tax dollars at work.

Lots of elbow room

Lots of space between campsites. But, being central Montana, there are almost no trees or brush. So, there is no privacy.

There is another campsite half a mile west that is set down in a private hollow. No table but really nice if you can do without.

Good light show… ??
Clear sky and full moon. Suddenly I saw the brightest meteor I have ever seen streak 3/4 way across sky. Brighter than the full moon. WOW! Do they do this light show every night or was this done just for me?

Rip off!

Off season ccamping… not here.

There was a signboard at entrance booth that might have included camping rates. But it was covered up. I drove around and could not find any employees to ask how much. I camped and did find someone in the morning. She the camping fee (with toilet facility and water shut off was $25. No off season rate and no senior discount.

Too much for camping in what is essentially a closes RV parking lot! I would have gone somewhere else if they had not hidden the camping rate singn.

I will not be back.

Quiet and lots of room.

If all you need is table, fire ring, pit toilet, and lots of privacy, this is for you. 10 sites. Some in large meadow and others in the woods. Apparently very lightly used (might be different on summer holidays). Gravel road access from the west. Road to the north is dirt and heavily rutted. Could be an issue when wet.

10 campsites in campground.  6 or 8 very nice undeveloped sites beside the stream along road to campground.

1.5 miles north of the Lake Koocanusa Bridge (or 5 miles south of the Abayance Bay Marina) turn east off MT-37 onto NF-7182.  Take first left then 2.5 miles and you are there!
