Lovely campground, lots of shaded spots. We came during the week and essentially had the place to ourselves. Short walk to Stonewall Peak trailhead. 15 minute drive to Green Valley Falls. Nice amenities: coin showers, individual bathrooms. Tons of cool birds to watch.
Loved this campground--excellent location close to the stunning Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Showers, flush toilets, steps away from a camp store, visitor center and restaurant. Of all the awe-inspiring sights in Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon remains my favorite, and I'm glad I was staying close enough to run out and watch the sun set on the falls.
We arrived at 6:30am, which was likely unnecessary for the week after labor day, but we snagged a great spot and were grateful to have picked Avalanche. Just steps away from a pleasant walk at Trail of Cedars and a 10 minute drive to Lake McDonald, the heart of the west side. Flush toilets, dish-washing station, no showers.
- Campsites are fairly close together but we didn't mind! The campground was full for July 4 weekend, yet not too loud and facilities weren't crowded
- Free, very private showers! Soap in the bathrooms! Super nice and clean!
- Steps away from a beautiful, expansive beach
- Do the Cape Lookout peninsula hike! Gorgeous views without great effort. Lots of tree roots that will tire your feet but not a strenous hike overall: ~5 miles roundtrip
- Perfect taste of the breathtaking Oregon coast
