The problem with reviewing your favorite place on Earth is that people will find out about that place and it will be crowded. So with that in mind: This place sucks. Don't come visit. The beach is too beautiful and it will ruin all other beaches. Same with the campground! It's too clean, the people are too nice, and the trails are too peaceful. You'll hate it. Oh! The town of Manzanita is only a short walk down the beach or the walking path and you'll thoroughly dislike the quant and charming town complete with Portland quality restaurants and even a whiskey bar. Don't even get me started on the weekly farmers market!
*All joking aside, it really is the best place in Oregon, and please be respectful of how wonderful it is :) We camp there at least 4 times a year and every month is special.
Camping at Point Mugu was the highlight of our PCH roadtrip. It is a beach that you literally pitch your tent on the sand, there are port-a-johns for the restrooms, and it can get pretty windy, but the views over the Pacific? Unbeatable. The sound of the surf lulled us to sleep and we woke up to dolphins playing a few yards from shore. The park is right off the highway, but there isn't much PCH traffic in that area at night so it was very quiet. I would highly recommend staying here. Just remember to grab what you need at Ralphs in Malibu before you head out… there isn't anything else around the campground.
Fort Stevens has so much to offer. It is not only a big and beautiful campground (one of the largest in the state) but it is also a significant historical site. The spaces are well maintained, and the miles of bike trails seem endless. They have very nice yurts and tent sites as well as the large RV sites. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and they have awesome programs for the kids.
We love this campground so much that we are getting married there this summer! :)
This park has everything! Clean bathrooms, laundry, full hook ups, dog park, river access… all within a 10 minute drive to downtown Eugene! I love this campground.
Ok here's the deal. I LOVE South Beach. It's an amazing campground that is at the beach, biking distance to town (and the aquarium and Rogue Brewery), and it is always very well taken care of. HOWEVER… This year there are the meanest and nastiest mosquitoes I've ever seen. They swarm like angry bees, and they are the size of small birds. I wish I was exaggerating! We had to go to town to buy the deepest woods (40% DEET… yuck) spray and that only kept them from going full vampire on us for a few minutes.
I hope they get this figured out. The park is too good not to visit. But be careful and don't get carried away by the flocks of mutant mosquito-birds!
We had an awesome time here. The campground was really clean and you could tell that the staff took pride in their park. We stayed in one of the pull through RV spots, but the tent sites (tucked up in the trees with a common parking area) were adorable. The only negative to this campground is that it is next to the railroad tracks and there are a lot of trains that go by. But you seriously stop hearing them after a while and it shouldn't deter you from enjoying this gem of a State Park!
