In the park!

Loved the location inside Rocky. We were lucky to get two nights from cancellations and were happy even though we had 2 different sites so had to move. Our favorite was the B loop - small and quiet with very close restroom. We could hear the elk bugling and deer walked through often. The second night we were at the end of the C loop, site 42. Very large site next to the water spigot and right next to the walking path that goes a few miles towards Estes. Not a big deal, but after 3 days of hiking in the park, it was tiring to walk uphill to the restrooms and to the trash dumpster! Beautiful view of Deer Mountain and there is also a city open space at the end of the campground. Heard owls while walking here early in the morning. Hope to go back next year and stay in one spot!

Everything We Hoped For!

We loved this campground for the stunning views, super clean bathrooms, and the easy access to hiking in RMNP. So many trails to choose from, either directly from the campground, or across the Bear Lake Road to the Park N Ride. Can't say enough about the views, especially if your site is in the open center area like ours was at C119.  There are lots of sites with shade as well. Sites are pretty close together but since we did not take our pups (they can't go on the park trails) we didn't mind.

Very difficult to snag a reservation but daily persistence paid off and we got one night which was the last night of their season. So glad we did. Will try again for next year!

Spectacular!

We loved camping here! We were very surprised that our site #14 did have trees and privacy after hearing from others that the Elk loop was bare from beetle kill. Lots of sites are bare, but this one is on the edge close to the Moose loop so plenty of trees. We did have to wait at the entrance gate until almost exactly our check in time at 2:00, but that was ok. Also, rec.gov had the check in and out times incorrect which was confusing, but the flexible and friendly campground hosts allowed us to finish our morning hike, giving us until noon to check out and into our second site(regular check out is 11:00). Something else surprising, the hosts said they often have same day availability due to cancellations and people who leave earlier than expected. Not sure I would take a chance and come up just for that, but it could extend your stay.

We ended up changing from Moose site 17 to site 34 for the second night. Both were amazing and private, but 34 had more space and suited us better. Wonderful experience with friendly and helpful hosts, very clean restrooms, quiet, peaceful, and fantastic hiking- oh and the views from the lake! Book early but don't give up- we got in on cancellations!

So wonderful to walk to the trails and there are many to choose from from. The restrooms are super clean, although not as many and as closely spaced as usual, but it wasn't a problem. We were so happy to make reservations on cancellations as it is super hard to get a spot here. We will try again in the future! Such a gorgeous place.

Quietly Perfect

We absolutely loved this campground. Although some spots are tight, the quiet, peaceful beauty and ability to hike (4 trails)  right from the campground made all the difference. We were in #63 and had a view of the dunes as well as open space behind us. Renovated restrooms were super clean, and had heat and lights with 3 stalls in each. The new handwashing sink station was great too. We were there during a full moon which was amazing, but did limit our view of the dark sky stars. People were friendly and respectful. We were there the last week of the season and the camp store was closed. Glad we brought firewood and had enough to share with neighbors.  Our two pups loved the dunes as well and we hope to return!

Perfect Spot

Loved our first time experience here! Probably one of the best campgrounds we've stayed at. Spacious and private sites, super clean restrooms, and a friendly but not intrusive campground host. We stayed in #15 which where we could hear the roar of Chalk Creek and hardly noticed any car noise. There is a trail from the east end of the campground that almost connects to the Narrow Gauge trail , but be careful, we almost lost our dog who got out of her harness and into the road when descending down the short but steep part of the trail - then it's a short walk to the Narrow Gauge (along the road).  Lots of forest to walk the dogs as well. Some sites had circular "forts" made of the many rocks in the area -  amazing fun for kids. Would absolutely stay again if we can get in!

Beautiful Setting!

Loved the setting and the short walk to Lake Isabel as well as the empty picnic area across the creek. Campground hosts were super friendly but respectful of our space and our pups who are learning to camp. Very nice people, clean restrooms and easy access. We were in #28 which looked more private in the pics, but turned out to be great. Were there the first week of August - surprised there were no bugs! Great spot close to home in Colorado Springs!
