Great place to go fishing, swimming and camping! We love staying here for a long weekend and taking the boat out on the water. It is a little busy though and lots of people around. Not a good place if our dog doesn't do well around other dogs. Awesome wildlife, got to see an eagle take a fish right out of the water in front of our boat!
When we camped here it was the off season and we only had to share the campground with 3 other groups of people. It is a close drive to Theodore Roosevelt National Park which is nice because we could spend all day at the park and then easily make it back in time to cook dinner and enjoy the site as well.
Such a beautiful park! Love going hiking here whether we are camping or not. The hikes are a great work out and the reward is always a great view of the Mississippi!! Very dog friendly and the staff that worked the gate were great!
Great for hiking and mountain biking! Campsites are pretty private except to people walking the trails. The falls are gorgeous!! Great for swimming when the water is not too high. There is also a little park for kids near the day parking area towards the end of the park. Saw a tone of deer while walking the trails- even though my dogs were with me!
Really nice lake! Caught a nice muskee on it! Wouldn’t swim in it but definitely good for fishing and boating. Also caught a lot of bluegill. Bathrooms are clean and campground isn’t overly buggy. Went on 4th of July and campground wasn’t super crowded nor was the lake. Camp sites are spaced out and you have some privacy.
Have been camping here several times and I still always enjoy it! The fishing is great- lots of bluegill!! Will catch on almost every throw! Great for taking kids fishing. You get a pier at your campsite to tie your boat up at. Nice area for swimming and even has a good hike! Campsites are very private and pretty big. Each campsite has its own picnic table and fire ring. The bathrooms and very clean and not a far walk. Not very buggy.
I may be biased- because I really hate mosquitos and ticks but wow! The ticks here are so tiny they’re very easy to miss so look I it for those. Also the mosquitos never let up- even in the rain. As you can see in the pictures though, our site was fairly close to our own beach which was nice for fishing and swimming. Good fishing off of fishing pier and cool wildlife (pictured). Caught a sheep head and some white bass! Campsites are a nice distance apart and the bathrooms aren’t a far walk and are well maintained.
Not much privacy with these campsites (or shade if you have one right on the lake) but the view is worth it to us! Boat landing is about a 10 minute drive down a gravel road, but it’s a nice area! There are tent sites on the side road that provide shad and some privacy as well. All sites and first-come (no reservations)
First time at this campground but will definitely be coming back. Great access to the river, campsites aren’t too small and spread out a decent amount. Bathrooms near the campsites and cleaner than usual when camping. Trees keep everything shaded most of the day. Decent location- not a long drive to the superior lake! Also the cutest red squirrels EVERYWHERE! Posted a video of one and the noises they make! Super cool!
