Cedarville State Forest (Tornado)

I took my girlfriend car camping in Cedarville State Forest. The camping trip turned more into a stay in the tent the whole trip. We set up camp and ate dinner only to be hit by a tornado watch in the area. I spent most of the trip adjusting the water proofing so we stayed dry. When the rain did calm down Cedarville state forest offered some very serene and peaceful views. Which is surprising due to the forests location.

Matchless Campground - Turquoise Lake

Located in the highest city in the US, Matchless Campground sits on Turquoise Lake. A 10-15 minute drive from downtown Leadville. Turquoise Lake offers beautiful and breathtaking views of Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. Leadville is known as Cloud City and rightly deserves the name as the cloud formations are beyond compare. Matchless is conveniently located by the boat ramp and they have facilities there. Currently the surrounding campgrounds are closed but Matchless offers free camping until October but the facilities are not maintained since the camp host has left for the season. There are trails that surround the lake making for excellent trail running/riding/hiking. There are also lots of perfect photo opportunity spots and plenty of trees to hang hammocks on.

Lincoln Creek Trail

My girlfriend and I drove in late to the dispersed camping on Lincoln Creek Road off of 82 (Independence Pass) towards Aspen. We set up at campsite 18 and highly recommend that site or traveling up past Grizzly Resevoir for primitive camping. The site goes about 100 yards back and has area for multiple vehicles or tents and is completely wooded. There's a path that walks back to the creek and if you follow it in either direction you have incredible views of waterfalls, Aspens, and Truro Peak.
