We stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is fantastic, close enough in to be 5 minutes from a super Wallmart and shopping, 25 minutes to Everglades City where we went out fishing and took an air boar tour, and is a hop skip to Marco beaches. This is your standard KOA with an upscale amenities list. The cell service and Wi-Fi were fantastic all over the site bc they have signal boosters located throughout. We are tent campers and the various tent sites seemed to be better than most. The pads were dry and flat. Each site has a table, fire pit ring, and water/ele. The sites are kinda on the steep side, but the place is nice and the owner totally believes in upgrading and maintenance, which is refreshing in this day and age. The pool facilities are super nice and the bath facilities were very clean. I will definitely be coming back to this little hide away! I give it 5 stars for its cleanliness, amenities, super friendly staff, location, and my experience staying there. We drove away with a smile on our faces and great Memories. I’m surprised there aren’t more reviews posted!
I’ve just started going here tent camping while down in Hatteras pursuing my kiteboarding passion. I’ve camped all over the US in various times of the year and I must say that this is one of my favorite places. The sunsets over the sound are spectacular. The camp sites vary depending on what you want. I wanted to be out of the wind which can be quite intense for tent camping in Hatteras, which is why I come here lol. The owner lives on site and is doing a great job in making his place one of the bests around. That speaks volumes over places like KOA. The sites are very spacious. Fires are allowed only if you bring a pit as fire rings (fires on ground) are not allowed. The camp store seemed well stocked and the showers and toilet facilities were new and in good order as well as well maintained. I will continue to come here in the future. This is now my go to place. You can do primitive (P sites) or have water and ele for around 10 bucks more. Both areas have great settings. Try it and you will like it! I absolutely love the people of Hatteras and would love to live here full time. Maybe one day!
We’ve been to this site on two occasions and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and it’s conveniently located and the rates are fair. I recommend it!
We always love going to KW and staying here is a great way to do it! It was hard setting the tent up due to the wind, but we managed. I think it’s the most I’ve ever paid to camp, but location location location !!
Ocracoke is a great place to “recharge” the batteries of life pure and simple! Falling asleep listening to the sounds of the ocean; to look up at night and see our galaxy the Milky Way and all the stars revolving around Polaris is simply awe inspiring and a slice of heaven! We tent camped D-28. The steady breeze kept the bugs away all 3 nights. 4x4 to the many beach gates is a definite must. Lower tire pressure to 15-20 psi is highly recommended
We arrived late and found my name on door with a tent site. We went to find the site and there was no water or ele as all were primitive sites. I had specifically requested/inquired if the river tent sites had water/ele and she said they did, so not knowing what else to do, we moved to what we thought were the other tent sites and set up camp. The next day I promptly went to the office to officially check in and pay when I was informed the site I was on was a RV site and the price doubled for having a 120V ele cord to charge the laptop and cell phones. I told her that’s ridiculous and I would give her a couple bucks for the juice when she got rude and wanted to argue with me regarding our original phone conversation about what was said. She actually wanted me to break camp and move everything off the “hook up” site where I told her that wasn’t going to happen for night 2 at all and I would move. She actually acted as if it was an easy thing to do!! I left the office and went exploring the NP which brings me to my second and third weirdness. I was also told on the phone the entrance to smoky mtn national park was 7 miles away. It’s actually 12 miles away. She also told me to turn left out of the campground, when I could have turned right and cut off a mile or so. In all cases the park entrance is NOT 7 miles. We packed up and left. My experience there was like entering the twilight zone, crazy!! I pride myself on my ability to communicate. I simply can’t believe how many times she was wrong. On a positive note the bathrooms were clean and the WiFi worked well enough to stream a movie. I will add that I hit the shower early and saw no sign that anyone else had showered as there are 4 different private units. Unfortunately the water temp never got anywhere close to warm much less hot. Crazy! Our argument ended with her telling me there would be no charge. I offered to pay what she had quoted me on the phone (44.00 for 2 nights) but she wouldn’t take it. If she thinks that move would guilt trip me it didn’t work. On the contrary, it fueled this review.
