Close to Town

About a 5 minute drive to Boone which makes it a great campground for doing sight seeing in town. You're never too far from stores or restaurants to enjoy. KOA is always nice to stay at but there aren't many places to hike in the campground that I've seen. Good tent camping for families who want to go sight seeing around town and enjoy the amenities of Boone, NC.

Best Primitive Camping

Some of the most inspiring and challenging hikes are to be had here! The entire gorge is hikeable and you can even spend days walking through it on a backpacking trip. This campground is where I spend all of my serious summer camping and hiking. There's campsites for car camping or park in a designated parking lot and hike on in to the wilderness! Be prepared to see the most stars you've ever seen in your life!

Great view

Campground is a good size and the trail is challenging but short. I visit mostly for the views at the top. It's a beautiful spot to look out and see Winston Salem! It is a good area for family camping.

Camping Right off the Parkway

The campsite is in the beginning of a 5 mile loop through the wilderness that takes you to Hebron falls. My only complaint is that you are close enough to the parkway to see and hear cars go by, but this makes the campground extremely accessible for everyone. The terrain is also flat and easy to hike through, making it a good long trail for beginners or children.

Wild Ponies!

Lots of clear field balds to walk through. The main trail is easy but the bouldering further up is challenging and exhilarating! Great for any hiking experience level. And wild ponies are everywhere! Be wary of the wind in the winter! My camera case almost blew away. Secure your items while you're there!

Best view in the high country!

Primitive camping and a perfect uphill 1.9 mile hike to the top of the world! If you're going in the winter I recommend hiking poles for hiking in the snow.

Easy Camping for Families

Cushy campsites with electric and water. Rent a canoe here and take it out on the lake! Or hike the Boone Fork Trail, a 5 mile loop right across the parkway. Beautiful anytime of the year.

Walk the Appalachian Trail!

Beautiful camping on top of the mountain balds! Watch the sunrise and sunset, but pack appropriately for the wind. The Appalachian Trail passes through this campsite!

Perfect Primitive Camping/Backpacking

Great free primitive camping. If all you need is a fire and a tent, this is the spot for you. The Linville Loop is also an amazing 3-4 day backpacking trip for anyone up to the challenge.
