I grew up 5 minutes from this park, It’s a great scenic view for such a small town, Back woods park.
There is great walking and hiking trails throughout the park and even one that goes to an old lighthouse out on Turkey Point! It’s a gorgeous walk and an amazing view when you reach the lighthouse. In season you can even go inside of it!
There’s also great camping and fishing throughout the area, The Susquehanna river is full of every kind of fish imaginable! And scattered ponds are just waiting for you to discover them.
All around amazing area to visit!
This state park was a great find on my way south, Off the beaten path with plenty of river frontage and ponds around.
There are plenty of places to fish! The ponds are full for Largemouth Bass and Bluegills, The river has plenty of fish in it too! Only thing is, if it just rained the current will be pretty quick.
There is camping sites all around the park, Some with water frontage, There are bathrooms, fire pits and picnic tables at the sites. I camped along the James river in a pull in spot and had a great time!
Little cell service there but the radio came in fine, There are some bumpy trails and paths within the park but I recommend you check out the pond on the first right turn after you leave the front entrance. Beautiful gazebo overlooking the pond with picnic tables.
I’ve been coming to Assateague since I was a few months old and I can honestly say I never get tired of it’s beauty!
There is plenty of beach to swim and roam, You’ll have no problems running into wild ponies and they’re babies! Just don’t feed or get close to them, they are definitely WILD!
There is plenty of RV, Tent and van camping dispersed throughout the park in designated areas, You can get a camp pass at the main gate.
There is on beach camping as well as camping spots with picnic tables and fire rings, Bathroom and shower houses as well. Quiet park and it’s ALSO One of the best star observatory spots in the US!
You won’t regret coming here, On your way in or out check out the amazing local produce farm Assateague Farms for all kinds of organic fresh picked snacks!
Definitely one of the nicer spots I’ve been! This park is located in one of Maines most visited areas, Great evening weather all throughout the summer, Plenty of wildlife around to keep your ears busy.
Got a great tent spot here but they offer a little bit of everything! Clean toilets and buildings throughout the park.
Would definitely come back!
Enjoyed my stay here very much, Took a friend for the adventure and we got our site no problem! We had a beautiful view from the back of my Mini-Van camper. Nice and windy! Kept the bugs away for sure. Would definitely come back!
This park is in one of my favorite parts of VA. Very beautiful area with plenty of off grid seclusion! It’s a nice scenic drive getting to the park on a quiet and well maintained back road.
The rangers at the park are very knowledgeable and kind and have no problem answering questions. There are many camping areas in the park, Some near creeks and on the lake as well. There are also cabins here! Plenty of picnic areas and great fishing as well!
It’s $8 a day for a fishing pass and you can rent John boats or kayaks here as well, In season the lake and creek are stocked with plenty of Rainbow trout. You can keep them for dinner if you like! Just follow all DNR laws on size and amount!
Some spots include clean bathrooms, hot showers, soda machines, fish fillet tables, Picnic tables, fire pits and so on.
I highly recommend this park for your next getaway or along your way!
I’ve been coming here since I was 5 years old (now 28) And things here have definitely changed! In a good way!
The pool and pavilion events, stopping into the store for a cold Icee drink and candy bar and meeting all kinds of cool people were some of my most memorable times camping as a kid.
There is now an arcade and a mini water park! This place is awesome for kids and families! Plenty of spots that will accommodate all camping types. Prices are as expected but this in my opinion is allot more fun than a beach trip with a hotel bill!
This is a great camp located near lake Moomaw! Right off the road with easy access to the sites. First come first serve but this particular camp has a lot of sites!
Plenty close by to do for outdoor lovers, Lake moomaw is a gorgeous hidden gem that not many people go to. It has a boat launch, shaded fishing areas, bathrooms, Grills, picnic tables and plenty of parking at the lake.
Bigger towns with Big Box stores about 30-45 minutes out, Hilly roads in and out of here but nothing the mini-van couldn’t handle! Spots for RV’s, Tents, And Vans are all accessible here.
Cool foggy mornings and nice dark nights out here, Usually always someone camping in this spot so you mostly won’t be out there alone.
All sites have picnic tables and fire pits, And there is actually a little bit of CELL SERVICE! And good radio service as well!
Great stop for primitive campers!
Cozy little site not too far from the main highway! Checked this out on my way to Tennessee.
Primitive camping but has plenty of natural wonders to keep you busy!
Very clean camp with all the amenities! Friendly and knowledgeable staff and plenty to do in the area!
This camp offers sites for everyone! There is Cabins, Spots for Tents, xxl RV’s, and more. Close to Ocean City, Assateague and the coolest little town Berlin!
There is a big pond to fish there with bass and bluegill lurking inside and a little camp store for all your basic needs!
Not a bad place for a family getaway or a stop along the way! Prices have gone up but that’s expected with glamping spots.
There are a lot of dispersed camping spots in VA, Especially in this region! I’ve camped all over the area and have seen many amazing sights! This pinned location doesn’t take you to a specific campground tho!
You’ll have to do some digging (google free camping VA) and you’ll find plenty of spots! Many spots say they charge a fee but don’t as well so be on the look out!
One of my favorite spots isn’t on The Dyrt but it’s free and in the Bath County area, It’s called Blowing Springs Campground, located near Covington VA. I also recommend seeing Falling Spring Falls almost a 100 Foot waterfall!
Very hilly roads leading out to this part of the state but beautiful none the less! No cell service but plenty to see!
This campground is one of my favorites in Maine! Sitting only an hour from Ellsworth and Bangor ME this is a nature lovers dream!
The dirt road leading to the camp can be easily missed if not paying attention! But is clearly marked with a blue sign at the head of the road. Your GPS might not give you an “exact” location but i promise I found the place with no problem!
The road has a few pot holes but nothing my stock (Low to the ground) Dodge Caravan couldn’t handle, There is about 4 Sites with river front views and trails leading to the water from each camp. There are also bigger sites for campers and RV’s. There is a site with a wooden protection shelter for tent campers as well!
New style out houses are on site but other than that it’s completely off grid!
Most Cell phone carriers won’t have service back at the camp, I myself had to drive 20 Minutes up the road for signal, A cell signal booster may work here. Radio signal is fine tho.
Great spot to fish and swim! I’ve caught smallmouth bass, chubs and trout in the river so far! (Black and silver Jerk baits work great) The mosquitoes can get bad in the area but fire pits and fires are permitted in the camp and they helped keep me comfortable from bugs!
There is also a marked trail in the camp that leads deep into the woods, I followed it for about a mile before it got too thick for my interest. Could be the trail that connects to the large pools of water up the river with ADDITIONAL camping there as well.
