Wonderful Experience

The campground was very clean and campsites offered above average privacy. The lower loop offers sites close to the Conejos river. We were in spot #39 with a 32’ camper. Plenty of room to park my truck on the side and out of the main driveway. Most important to note: The campground host, Sam, was extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful. For example, a wildland fire broke out approximately 8 miles away and Sam personally visited each campsite to explain what he knew about the fire and ensured everyone that he would not hesitate to advise us to evacuate. I think he calmed many folk’s nerves. As a result, we remained and enjoyed our trip thoroughly. Additionally, upon returning from our trip, my son had realized he left behind a fly fishing pack containing countless flies, lured and accessories. He was absolutely devastated. Unfortunately, Mogote is 4.5 hours from Denver and returning was not an option. So, I left a message with a San Juan National Forest Ranger station in Del Norte who was able to put Sam and I in contact. I’m telling you that it took several people (Ranger, campground host at Aspen Glade and Sam at Mogote to deliver the message, locate the lost pack and facilitate returning the pack to my grateful son). Apologies for the lengthy review, but I want to express my deep appreciation for all of those who made this trip successful and assisted us with the return of my son’s beloved fishing equipment.

Shady, spacious and family-friendly

My family and I camped here in 2020 and are returning in August 2021. Right on the Crystal River and just 15-ish miles south of Carbondale. Sites are huge and have shade all day. Kids loved it. Dad loved the fishing access.

Well maintained and close to BV

My family stayed here last summer and we’re not disappointed. The lack of shade (upper spaces) and not a lot of choices for big-rigs are the only downsides here. Here are the positives:

  • Great access to the Arkansas River (fishing, put-in/ - take/out access)
  • Very well-maintained spaces and clean bathrooms
  • Minutes from rafting outfitters (we always go through Noah’s Ark. Great customer service and experienced guides)
  • Close to Buena Vista
  • Family friendly area with lots of access to public trails around Ruby Mountain

Enjoy!

Great views of the Collegiate Peaks

If you don’t mind heavy boating traffic (shuttles & busses, etc.) and limited shade, this campground has some great upsides including:

  • Large drive-through spaces for RV’s (with tent pads)
  • Immediate access to the Arkansas river
  • Cool railroad bridge to explore (not fenced so please be careful with wandering kids and drunk friends!)
  • Beautiful views of the Collegiate Peaks
  • Cellphone coverage is steady (could be a negative to some, I understand)

Take away the heavy vehicle traffic until about 5pm-ish and the lack of shade, Railroad Bridge would get 5.

Beautiful Setting

My wife and I camped here in July 2021. The lower campground sits right on the Conejos River. Tons of shade under giant pine trees. Great fishing access to public waters.

One negative:

  • Barking (more like yelping) dogs all 3 days of our visit. Owners left the dogs for hours during the day and the camp host seemingly did nothing to stop it.

In the end, this is an awesome spot with well-maintained spaces, clean-ish bathrooms, fresh water supply, and great privacy. If not for the dogs, I would give Aspen Glade a 5.

Got shade?

This campground would be perfect for those who desire to experience what it would be like to camp on the surface of the sun or for those who don’t mind heavy highway traffic, speeding rafting shuttles feet from you and your loved ones, and/or taking in the amazing views of scorched earth. In the end, this is not a family-friendly site as it is extremely busy, noisy and hot.

Great for 20-something River rats!
