Penrose State Park has some of the best shoreline access in the Puget Sound area with good trails inland as well as great coastal access during low tide around the entire Penrose State Park point.
Bring a kayak to tour the bay and the Puget Sound or a fishing rod to fish for Searun Cutthroat or Salmon off the point.
Its busy like most State Parks, but, you will find the WA State Park system to be maintained well.
Deception Pass is one of our favorite campgrounds in WA having lots of coastal access and a trail system along the water which takes you to The Bridge as well as other lookout points on Anacortes island.
At different times of the year you can fish the shoreline for Searun Cutthroat and/or Salmon.
It has to be one of the most beautiful locations in WA with views of Lopez Island and a number of small islands.
We found this campground to have good sized campsites with lots of tall trees. There is good system of trails, tons of picnic tables along the river, and good river access to the Green rivers.
Campground is well maintained, clean bathrooms and showers available. Although walking distance to bathrooms is a little far away. Sometimes this is a plus though.
