My new favorite

Camped here for 2 nights Oct 10/11 and loved it!! We stayed at B18. This was by far the quietest campground I have ever stayed at! The pit toilets were clean. The bear boxes were very large and clean. We only saw the rangers twice as they were driving by. Most people left on Sunday morning, probably because the snow and wind were moving in. We stayed. The wind gusts must have been close to 60mph! I live locally and am so happy I found this area..so much history to explore here!

Gorgeous!

Very cool area with many areas to explore. This area has everything Colorado at 11,500’. There is a waterfall, a lake, some marsh land and plenty of views! Up on the adjacent mountainside are a few old mining locations and some caves. Easy hikes for kids of all ages. Heavily trafficked day use area but quiets down around dusk. ZERO cell service in this area! Overall one of the best free places to camp I have found in CO.

Its lonely at the top

The road up is gravel and well maintained. It will take you about 45 minutes to go 14 miles so be ready. Be warned, cattle trucks use this road also. I pulled over for 3 of them to pass on the barely wide enough for two cars road. Lots of dispersed camping. Fire pits. No toilets. Pack it in, pack it out.
