Nice sites

Nice campground, with restrooms/showers, playground, amphitheater, picnic tables. Pull through sites, tents sites, cabins. Close access to Lake Sakakawea, within walking distance.

Popular area

Blacktail Dam is a popular destination for most area people. It is a small dam so it does tend to get quite busy, with minimal camping spots. Most of the land around the lake is privately owned lots.

Small campground overlooking lake

Campground is set on top of hill overlooking Brush Lake which is a gem in itself. Campsites are spacious, but no trees for privacy or shade. There are bathroom facilities. Trails that lead down to the lake. Lake has restroom facilities, picnic tables, boat ramp, and beach area. The lake was a hidden gem among locals, so not a ton of people camping. One side of the lake is a state park and the other is privately owned.

Nice campground

Nice, well cared for campground. A lot of trees separating campsites. Very friendly camp host, nice clean restrooms and showers.

Much to be desired

Not much privacy. The site or group site that we stay at has no grass, is on top of a hill with no protection or privacy which most of the campground is similar. There is also a bar just around the corner which gets quite noisy if bands are playing on the weekends. There is one restroom facility with showers.

Beautiful but busy

Campground is a short walk to Lake McDonald (beautiful)and Apgar Village. There are no electrical hookups and no showers. Beautiful wooded campground, large sites, and typically not too noisy. Best bet is to get to the campground early in the morning to get a spot as it is first come first serve and fills up pretty quickly. We typically find a spot where campers are up and getting packed up, place a tag on the site marker and come back after 12 to set up. You can run over to Apgar village if you want to rent canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, or motor boats by the hour.
