NY NY

We came here to hike Hudson Highlands State park while we were one 5 week assignment working in NY. We were impressed with how nice the staff was - a breath of fresh air after several weeks dealing w/high-stress New Yorkers. It felt spacious and thought out. The restrooms weren't the best but we aren't picky. It was close to good hiking as well as a few wineries. Not a bad weekend! Perfect getaway from fast-paced city living.

Cool, even when it's hot!

We camped here on a particularly hot summer weekend. We were dying, that is until we realized we could rent a pontoon boat. It turned out to be the most fun we had camping all year! We took the boat out all day - swimming, lounging, tubing, etc. . . . the kids were beat by night and we didn't even mind the heat.
As for the campsite - they are well spaced and the toilets/showers are clean and convenient. Nothin else needed!

My favorite place to recreate!

This place is the jewel of Cleveland! it's just amazing. When you are here, even for just a half hour on your lunch break, you feel like you are on some nature vacation. I come here at least once a week to ride my bike, run or picnic. I have seen all sorts of wildlife. There are train rides and farmers markets and even a surprisingly large waterfall. I also trained for a full marathon here thanks to the perfectly placed water fountains and bathrooms.
Having this so close to home makes living in a city manageable.

One of my favorite places!

I absolutely love this place! The camp site is nothing to write home about but it's just what we wanted/needed - good price, clean facilities, electric (even when tent camping) and, most important - LOCATION!
We spent a couple of days making our way around the lakes, wining and dining, then came back to our cozy campsite to enjoy a drink by the fire. We had plenty of space and no one bothered us.
We also spend a full day hiking in the park - beautiful! Waterfall after waterfall - amazing stuff! If you have not been here make it a priority!

Cute little place!

I haven't camped here but I have passed by many of time with the family, mostly visitors from out of state, on the way to or from a winery. They are always impressed with the scenery and the proximity to our home in Cleveland. It's a great little place to get away for the afternoon. Eventually I will camp here. . . . .

Backcountry camping!

The best scenery I've ever had the privilege of seeing. The wildlife? Unreal! Amazing experience.
Unfortunately the maps given at the entrance were absolutely worthless! There was not even a key for north! It's amazing I made it out alive. Thank goodness I have commonsense and wilderness experience. I fear for those who don't.

Location! Location! Location!

The island alone gives this place it's glory and stars! How awesome that we can be in the middle of a thriving metropolis that is Cleveland in the morning, and off some topical Isle without a care in the world by happy hour. Camping here is a great alternative to the overpriced, outdated and dingy hotel options around this tiny town.
That being said, the clientele here is not the best - think middle-aged, Jimmy Buffet groupies on spring break - but again, the location wins out! I will be back again and again!

I wanted to like this place. . . . .

. . . . . I mean, the hiking and exploring are great! It's nice and close to my home (Cleveland). The camping however left much to be desired. The campsites are so close together, which you think would at least mean the bathrooms were close, but no, they were a serious hike. Not good with kids.
I still would return here because of the cheap cost and the surrounding hiking opportunities. I hope though they will improve the facilities at some point. This place really could be a 10.

Camping, rafting and more!

We loved this campsite. We had a great weekend here camping with a big group of friends and rafting the Youghiogheny. This place is a perfect place to stay to make all of your outdoor dreams come true!
Why not 5 stars? The stuffy park rangers harassed us all weekend about our noise level, despite us being practically silent at night (we were all pretty tired and low key after a hours of wilderness adventures). Not cool!

Great for families

This is a good campground for families. We tent camped here. The sites are pretty far apart and you feel secluded but, at the same time, the bathrooms are close by. There is a lot of hiking and things to do around the area and even a playground for the kiddos. Not for your serious adventures but great for families.

Clean tent camping

As far as tent camping goes, it does not get any easier than this. Everything is clean and well organized. Perfect for first time campers
