This was our second time coming to this local spot. We didn’t have as much luck with catching catfish this time, but our campsite was great! It was tucked all the way at the back of the second pond and surrounded by trees and a cornfield.
We scored the most private area for sure. While it felt more peaceful back there, you can still easily here people across the lake and their poor choice in music.
We love this campground when we just need a quick getaway. A bad storm rolled in that night, but we felt well protected by the trees.
Prophetstown State Park has a lot going on. First off it’s got a lot of different nature habitats, including prairies and wetlands. Beyond that there’s exhibits, an old village, and other fun activities. It wasn’t too busy when we went but I imagine it can get pretty busy and possibly noisy in the warmer months.
We love driving through scenic trails so we go to the Hoosier National Forest pretty frequently. The great thing about the campsites around the area are that they’re free. We stayed at the Horse camp. It’s a pretty good sized location. There were about 3 horse trailers there when we stayed. We were a group of 6 vehicles and we fit just fine in the back of the campground and there was so much space of more people if needed. They also have restrooms there too. It was nice and quiet except for the Coyotes, but hey, that’s okay.
We heard a lot of good things recently about this park. We had no idea it was so close to us too. We packed up the dogs and headed to France Park for a full day of exploring, followed by staying at a primitive campsite.
We took two vehicles since we wanted to leave one at our campsite. Some sites are clustered together, however we lucked out and got one along the fishing lake with no nearby neighbors.
The quarry, wow! It was beyond stunning and never what I expected to see in an Indiana park. We had an amazing hike, checking out the quarry. We ventured out on one more trail and saw the waterfall but headed to our site to set up camp afterwards.
Park was quiet at night for the most part. The RV area isn’t too far away and sound does travel. Lots of people drive golf carts out there. At night you can hear the major highway too, but it didn’t stop us from having a good time.
We will definitely be going back again.
We decided to go on a waterfall tour in Indiana. Clifty Falls State park was at the top of our list. Unfortunately when we went, the falls were very dry. In fact we only saw one of the two we visited. The other two falls you have to hike to, and sadly we just weren’t prepared to hike that day.
Park is beautiful though and we will definitely be visiting next year.
We love coming here when we want to camp, fish and getaway from home without driving far.
We prefer certain primitive sites where we can be spaced out more and park on the grass since we car camp. This campground can fill up quickly, so we always show up pretty early in the day.
We spent all Saturday in the neighboring towns, enjoying the beautiful fall scenery, and were happily surprised with just how gorgeous and large this park was. There were some sites in the park we wanted to check out but the non-stop rain made us head out pretty early the following morning.
The staff was incredibly helpful over the phone when I spoke to them and even recommended a primitive spot that would work for my family and the friends we came with. Park was quiet at night and we lucked out and had no neighbors.
The bathrooms were nice as well. Cannot complain about indoor plumbing! They even have showers if you stayed a long weekend.
We will definitely be staying here again.
