The staff is top notch, very accommodating. The owners are trying to turn it into a resort and charge a nightly “resort fee” but the amenities and upkeep are just not worth the price tag of $140/night. All of the campgrounds in the area have seasonal sites that look like they’ve been in the family for years. Whether you stay here or somewhere else on the island, charter a trip with Up The Bay Pony Tours.
Pro Tip: all electric connections are 50 AMP, if you need 30 AMP bring an adapter. We were fortunate that they had an adapter to lend us, but they didn’t have many.
Campground was nice and well maintained. The "Camp Host" came around a few times a day to ensure trash was picked up and needs were met. Site 8 has full hookups and a concrete parking pad. The roses are narrow and the larger rig next to us had issues getting in. The sites on our side of the road sloped away from the parking pad. It there wasn’t a level spot off the concrete. We had to use our leveling blocks under the picnic table.
Small campground W/ 8 spaces in the main area and 7 in an adjacent area. All spaces are level concrete With fill hookups and attached concrete patio. Power is at the far back & sewage is in the middle (left to right). A longer camper will be parked over the sewage connection. The bathhouse has on male and one female stall each. Laundry facilities are free for use and in like new condition. Even though the published rules state no long term leases there are a couple of trailers that haven’t seen the road in some time. Rumor is that the base XO is a full timer posted up in one of the spaces. That would explain the new-ish bath/laundry facilities. Exchange facilities close early on Saturday and closed Sunday.
It’s only an hour from Manhattan & 20 more minutes from the shore. If you’re planning a visit to either this campground is cheap, clean & quiet.
