Mothers Day weekend

Sites are laid out badly and way too close to each other. Grills, picnic table and fire ring behind sites. Most within 5 feet of neighbors sewer connection. Could be nice park if they take out every other site. Our particular site was adequate. We arrived on Wednesday and have endured multiple days of Harvey rain and flooding. Many roads closed in the area due to high water. However after the bad weather earlier this week the weekend is predicted to be gorgeous. We love camping.

Beach Vacation

This is easily the biggest and best campground our family has ever stayed in. We’ve been here for 4 days and we haven’t even finished investigating the whole park. The sites are really spacious and pretty level with full hook up. There are lots of things to see and do here like beaches, Civil War historical things, shopping and dining. We are traveling with another family and we have had the best vacation ever. Yesterday we drove over to Pensacola Florida and we watched the Blue Angles practice their air show and it was awesome. This has been wonderful and we are discussing making it an annual destination.

Out with 2020 Hope 2021 better

We wanted to end this terrible year (2020) and start the new one (2021) fresh….while camping. We stayed at Point campground in spot 47. Never camped here before and can’t wait to come back. We were so impressed at the space and layout of each site not to mention the spectacular design of main restrooms. Trip was planned for 12/28/20 thru 1/1/21 (started a new tradition and did same dates Palo Duro Canyon, TX last year) to start the new year off camping. This year the snow/ice bad weather chased us off early but will be sure to make this one of our first trips in the new year.

Corona Free Camping

So sick of just sitting at home. Wait a minute …. we have a portable home. We have probably camped around 8 times since March. I we can do distance or virtual learning from any place that we can use the hot spot on our phones. Love the camping hate the “Rona”. Still haven’t caught any fish. Guess we’ll try again next year since we have winterized. At least for now….we shall see.

Big family camping trip

Late October and the colors were gorgeous. We were so close, but missed peak fall colors by about a week or so. We plan to go again but next time will have to plan for the whole week.

We had the best camping trip ever

There was so much to do in this area of the state. We visited Ardmore for a day. Wandered around town and the shops. Another day we visited the tower and enjoyed the clear water on a jet ski and Kayaks. Lots to see and do here. The only thing that happened that kept this from being the best trip ever was that our travel trailer had a blow out on the way home.

Fall break

October 7-9 we stayed in Dogwood campground spot number 81. We had a wonderful time and the weather was simply great. Colors were starting to change. Very clean campground and restrooms were very well maintained.

Words Can’t Describe

We stayed in Ben’s Campground in Lake Texoma State Park June 25-28 2020 and were so underwhelmed by all that went on that I can promise we will never stay here or this state park ever again. First of all we were met first thing by the camp hosts checking to see who we were and if we had paid. Then they saw a tent on our site and wanted to know how we were paying for that. First, I want to say I have never, ever been charged to have a tent with us on our RV site. These people acted like we were trying to steal something. I was completely pissed especially how crappy the facilities were taken care of in this park. Then the whole campground was over crowded with some family reunion going on with live music fireworks and general pandemonium going on the whole time we were here. It was fairly quite during the day while it was sweltering heat but after it got dark no consideration for anybody else until after 11:00 pm. Camp hosts were nowhere to be found after they made sure they got your money….they sure weren’t anywhere around to get the music turned off by quite hour. It was terrible for my family that was looking forward to a quite weekend. It was jam packed here like a mini rock festival. How disappointing to drive about four hours to get here.

Started with a bang
The trip started out, to get away from being quarantined at home because of the COVID-19 virus. Within a few hours of getting our campsite setup we were hunkered down because of tornado threats all around. Some funnels were spotted north of us and west of us then the news said one tracked south of us. The thunder so close and loud you could feel it. After the bad weather passed to remained of the time was beautiful.
This Ouachita (pronounced wash-it-taw) mountain area is where the Jesse James gang hid out along with other outlaws such as Belle Star.
We stayed in the whispering pines campground in old circle #20. It was a good spot with plenty of shade and great amount of room to relax. We will definitely be coming back here in the future. We loved it.
Happy New Year

We have always talked about going on this trip and finally went. We stayed in spot 125 of Sagebrush Campground. All the sites were nice, clean and had gorgeous views. The weather was fairly mild but cool. Our RV water froze up twice in the five days we were here but we kind of expected it…., it is January. We didn’t realize until we checked in that one half of the park was closed due to a several week hunting period. But the upper half of the canyon that we explored all week was breathtaking. If you love beautiful scenery this park is a must see destination.

Guys camping trip

Myself, the sons and grandsons in our family decided to go on a weekend camp out for just the guys. We all agreed to go to Lake Eufaula but had never stayed in Dogwood RV park so that’s what we did this time. We stayed in premium spot # 81 and couldn’t have been more pleased. Spot was great, weather was cool which made sitting in front of a campfire and just a short walk over to the bathroom facilities. They were well maintained, clean and best of all warm with good hot water. Saw plenty of deer and an armadillo or two. Squirrels were plentiful as well. We weren’t lucky enough between all of us to catch even one fish but hot dogs and burgers were plentiful. Overall we had a great time and I can’t wait to go on another camp out with them. Maybe next time we’ll add all the girls and reserve multiple camping spots.

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day weekend we camped at Greenleaf State Park in the Gobbler Ridge Campground site number #18. This area was nice and spacious. We didn’t feel like we were squashed into our neighbors. It was however “Labor Day” weekend which normally means bad weather and let me tell you we weren’t surprised Saturday night when the sky just opened up and started to pour. The site we had was partially shaded but kind of a small valley so after the rain it was pretty soggy. There are other campgrounds close by and stuff to do. The park is in the process of constructing a splash pad next to the miniature golf course. On Saturday nights they do a wagon ride with a guide that talks about the area. Bummer for us cause one family 23 people took up the whole ride. Holiday weekend…..maybe should have two wagons? All in all I think we had a good time and would definitely recommend this park.

Summer Scorcher

We stayed August 6-9 2019. Turned out to be about one of the hottest weeks of the year. Our campsite was in Lakeview Circle site #91. It is a large pull through site with a gorgeous view of the lake. We almost had the run of the whole park which we attributed to the tremendous heat, so much flooding earlier in May and June and the new school year starting the following week. We will try this spot again in the fall because there was way too much sun for the better part of the day. They have a nice nature center and the playground in the next campground. It was okay with our child. The camping spots in that area are within walking distance to the nature center and playground. The bathrooms are not new but clean (and very hot during this stay). There are clean pay showers attached to the backside of the restroom. Park was very nice and was well cared for. Our family will definitely stay here again, probably in the fall when it is cooler.

Inaugural RV Trip

We stayed in Seminole, site #22 mid July 2019. Very peaceful campground and this site has awesome amounts of shade from late morning through the rest of the day. Lots of room between sites and grounds were well cared for. This state park is still recovering from all the flooding earlier this year but still has lots to do and see with lodge, golf course, paved trails and a nature center, etc. Our family has agreed we would like to stay here again anytime and are planning to come in fall for sure.
