We visited this campground April 23rd and stayed for 2 nights. Campground is very clean and peaceful. We dragged our feet on booking so ended up with limited sites to choose from. Site 49, still a great site just not as private as some of the sites on roundabouts.
Site 49 has a slightly mild downhill walk about 30 yards to get to the edge of the water. Not really an area you would jump in and swim at though, stagnant water in the corner. We used it for setting up our hammocks and used it for the view of the lake.
There is also a small old town right outside the campground with a small ice cream place / museum and old market with minimum things in a pinch.
There was also another campsite within 10-15 minutes of Indian Springs and they had a trail you could walk along the waterfalls and river.
We had a great experience that unfortunately ended a day early due to some heavy rain. We checked in on a Thursday evening from the drive from Florida. Campsite was chosen from a map, which seemed to have an upfront water access. Apron arrival, we found out there was actually another campsite squeezed directly in front of us and a RV showed up to obstruct the breeze and view of the water. We wanted our own water entrance and the view, so we moved to campsite 103. Best decision we made was moving to campsite 103, highly recommend. It’s on its own point, more secluded from the other sites, almost no visibility from your neighbors. The best part was the view, sunsets over the water were beautiful. There is a slightly steep step down to get to a lower ridge that walks into the water, be careful in the rain, but that’s where we scattered our hammocks throughout. Campground wise, we had 2 tents set up, trucks parked about 20’ away and still had room for Cornhole boards, fire pit and tables. The lake access was awesome because we bring inflatable paddle boards and there was a small island about 1/2 mile out that we would paddle around and back
The drive in is easy and paved. I do always hope for that off-road, overland kind of drive in but not here. Campground is huge with multiple sections so pay attention to the signs. Campsite #s where spray painted yellow on the ground if I recall correctly.
Overall, great getaway, the cell service was almost gone, every now and then a bar would pop up so just throw it in airplane mode to truly escape. Make sure you get a site on the water if you are tent camping. It would suck to have your view impeded and not have a back up campsite so choose wisely.
Seclusion might be an issue at some sites but they do have a couple sets of bathrooms around that are well maintained at the campground. Nothing crazy but they are clean.
Drive in is a nice paved road, got our information on where our sites where from the Camp Host, Who was super informative. They don’t sell ice or firewood but there is small convenient store 100 yds away from the entrance to the Cosby campground. Disney land pricing for firewood but really Nice to have so close. The campsites are pretty close to each other, campsites are on both sides of the one way road, pretty full the weekend we went.
First night we got in around 12pm, set up our site, made drinks and did the 1 mile nature trail inside the campground, very nice and well maintained. Site B86 was so close but was the higher of the 2 campsites, and had flatter ground around the fire ring. We moved a tent over there for the first night to have extra space but ours did accommodate 3 tents, the rest of the stay. Friday went on a 10.2 mile hike leaving right out of the campground. We took the Appalachian Trail to Mt. Cammerer to an old fire tower built in 1956. The views on a clear day were absolutely beautiful. Third day, we went whitewater rafting down the street, on the pigeon river. Highly recommend going to the Tennessee Moonshine place down the street from the campground, Moonshine Slushes are the bomb, get the shine floater lol.
Stayed September 30- October 4th. Temperature was 68-72 degrees during the day, 58-65 degrees at night.
We absolutely loved this campsite(#45) it was our first time there. We did a last minute trip from Orlando, Fl and it was great. We showed up late Friday, 30 min before closing. They had a sign on the window with the number to inform the tenant and the option to purchase firewood. We only got one afternoon but the view was worth it! Sunset at this site was amazing. We had a couple hammocks up, our tent and had a fire going both days. The campgrounds are clean, and well maintained. We had lake access at our site which was nice for cooling off or swimming. Next time we come, we will make to bring a fishing pole and some tubes to float in the water. Weather was awesome, 75-78 during the day, 63-68 at night. Use google to find the campground, Apple led us 8 miles into a different campground. Overall this camp ground is great.
