Enjoy spending time outdoors camping (primitive and in my travel trailer), hunting, fishing, and hiking, especially with my wife and kids!

Big campground right outside of Yellowstone

We loved this place. Very cool area with lots to do and see. Only a couple of miles.from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It borders  a forest with plenty of trails. Big campground and very busy. Food and amentities for trips to the park are close by.

Small, but nice campground.

Nice KOA campground. A little further than we wanted to be from Wichita, but not their fault. Clean, friendly employees. Would stay here again.

Nice campground, good breakfast nearby

This is a nicely maintained state park. All the amenities you'd expect. No complaints. Truck stop a few miles away that had a really good breakfast and giant cinnamon rolls!

Nice area, not too many around you

Smaller campground. Close to outlet. Trails in area (short). Clean, nice bathrooms and showers.

Home away from home

This is our go to spot when we visit Branson several times a year! Always kind, helpful employees, very clean bathrooms and showers, and is well taken care of.  The kids enjoy riding their bikes, the small pool and hot tub too. They have room for big rigs, cabins, and offer a military discount!

Nice area to camp and fish

There are limited sites for camping at Hillsdale Lake.  But they are all nice and many offer waterfront access.  Great fishing on Hillsdale and they have a really nice Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Recreation operated firearms outdoor range facility too.

Nice military campground on the Lake of the Ozarks

The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) is a great destination for camping, boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing and other outdoor activities. The lake is one of the Nation's largest man-made lakes, providing you with over 1150 miles of shoreline to enjoy. LORA welcomes Active Duty Military, Retired Military, members of the National Guard and Reserves, DoD employees with ID cards, family members and Fort Leonard Wood contract employees.  Plenty to do and see here.  Boat rentals, hiking, and others mentioned above.  The LORA Country Store carries ice, beverages, firewood and a small selection of food including snacks, milk, eggs and bread. The store also carries the basic necessities needed for camping and fishing, including fishing licenses.  Can rent a tent site, camper site with full or partial hook ups, cabins 1-3 bedroom, etc.  The marina has boat and jet-ski rentals (pontoons, wave runners, jet ski's, ski boats, fishing boats, pontoons, etc.) that are much more reasonable then other rental places in the area. Area is staffed by on-duty MP's out of Fort Leonard Wood.

Best spot on the Elk River

This is the best place to stay when floating the Elk River.  Lots to choose from, cabins, tents, campers, etc.  Have a late night loop (for the partiers), sand volleyball courts, shuttle to a nearby open air dance club, huge store and restaurant with good pizza and breakfast buffet.  The cabins are nice as well.  This is our go to spot for the Elk River year after year.  Canoes, rafts, kayaks, etc.  They have a 5 and 8 mile float option, depending on river conditions.

Awesome canoe/raft/kayak outfitter and campground

Been to this place many times.  They keep upgrading the facilities year after year.  Taken our travel trailer (34 feet), water/electric hookup, sewer dump onsite.  Nice store, showers, and beautiful area along the river to relax, float, fish, etc.  Very friendly and accommodating staff.  They have added cabins to rent as well.  Right next door to Bennett Springs, which is awesome trout fishing!!

Great area in the middle of nowhere

This campground is on the northwest side of Clinton Lake.  All the activities one would associate with a lake like boat ramps, beach, hiking/biking trails, full hook-up sites, tent camping, playgrounds, etc.  The small town of Clinton is nearby and has a small store for items you may forget.  It's our go to when we go to Clinton Lake.

In the shadows of Devil's Tower

Literally in the shadow of Devil's Tower.  Neat area with lots to do.  Only stayed one night, but had no complaints.  Hot showers, clean bathrooms, and everything we needed.  We were passing through and got in late.

AWESOME campground near Mount Rushmore

We had a blast at this KOA!!  UTV rentals with State Park trails adjacent to the campground were a lot of fun (and reasonably priced).  TONS of things to do at the campground from bike rentals, pools, waterslides, sports, shopping, restaurants, trail rides, chuck wagon dinner rides, neat shops for ice cream, coffee, etc.  Just a really neat place with a big store in case you need anything.  We ended up staying another night as we were having so much fun.  Very close to Mount Rushmore and Keystone (which is a cool town too).  Check out the excursion train!!

Nice campground at west entrance to Yellowstone NP

Nice campground, but a little pricey.  The town is gorgeous.  Literally at the west entrance to Yellowstone NP. Very clean and organized.  It's on the edge of a large forest (possibly NP land?) with lots of trails to explore.  If you are coming to Yellowstone from the south or east, it's a bit of a drive, but we went through Teton NP and it was amazing!!! Besides Yellowstone, there are a ton of things to do in the area.

Great kid-friendly mountain campground

Very kid-friendly campground with tons of activities for them and adults.  Game rooms, pool, hiking, etc.  Some of the sites are a little challenging to get into with a big camper, but doable.  We'd defininately go back again.  Just a few minutes from downtown Estes Park.  Beautiful setting!!

Primitive camping along Clinton Lake

This is a neat area if you're into some light hiking.  It has a loop trail starting at a parking area.  You can also tent camp at the trailhead.  It has a pit toilet and water access.  The trail is maybe 4-5 miles long and takes you up and down some slight grades.  There are numerous primitive campsites along the trail that are marked, or you can venture off to your own site within the area.  Many are directly up against the lake.  The marked sites are relatively cleared and many people have improved them by building benches, fire pits, etc.  My son and I had a great time the 2x we've been out here.

Manatee Cove Patrick AFB FamCamp

Nice campground if you want to travel around the Cocoa Beach area.  Located directly along the historic Banana River, the campground currently has 156 full-service sites with 30/50 amp capability, ten primitive camping sites, two laundry and shower facilities, a 24-hour community center and a private beach. Placement is on a first-come, first-served basis with the exception of active duty personnel. Potential guests are highly encouraged to call ahead and inquire about availability during the months of November thru February when the campground traditionally maintains close to full capacity.  Lots of amenities on Patrick AFB such as a pool, bowling alley, PX, etc.  We enjoyed Satellite Beach which is a couple of miles south of the base.  Right along the eastern coast too!!  Be prepared for aircraft activity such as C-130's and helicopters coming in and out, as the FamCamp is near the end of one of the runways.  Kids really liked this part.

Mountain hideaway KOA

Takes a while to get back to this campground, as it's a little remote, but it's a pretty location nestled in the foothills of the mountains.  Lots of fun things for the kids to do.  Some of the roads and RV sites are a little difficult to get into.  Our site was on a sharp curve with a decent grade, but after some jockeying around, we got our camper in ok.  Only stayed here for one night on our way to Florida.  Would stay again.  Clean restrooms.

Campground open to military and retirees and thier guests

Awesome campground open to Active Duty/Reserve military, retirees, and their guests. The have 3 and 2 bedroom villas, studio rooms, and a hotel, in addition to some RV sites. The RV sites are limited (30 or so). Very clean, right on Choctawhatchee Bay, less than 5 minutes drive from Destin Harbor. They have a nice clean pool and splash area for kids, a boat ramp and marina where you can rent boats, and a 300' fishing pier. They have a playground for the kids and a community shelter with access to grills. A few minutes from a military exclusive beach also. This place fills up fast for the price. The RV area can get pretty tight at times.

Best place around Branson to camp

ABC is just on the edge of Branson, but still within a few minutes of the Strip and all the town's locations.  We've stayed here numerous times and it's our go-to spot when we go to Branson 2-3 times a year.  They have a pool and hot tub, small restaurant, playground, very clean showers/bathrooms, can accommodate big rigs, have a small tent area, cabins to rent, horseshoes, RV wash, small store, can arrange travel, etc.  They have cabins to rent as well. There is a very reasonable and tasty brick oven pizza place just up the road towards Branson that is worth checking out.  The offer discounts if you are a member of Good Sam's Club, pay with check/cash, or are a current/former member of the military.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still conveineant

This campground is off the beaten path near Destin (about a 30 minute drive), but is still very convenient.  It's got all the amenities and then some. Cabin rental, ice, pool, fishing, boat dock, clean bathrooms, playground, etc.  There is a nice gas station/small store just up the road too.  It's on a dead end road, so there is little traffic.  Even saw a couple of small gators by the boat dock! Very nice place, would stay there again!
