This is a review for the Hazard Campground. If you want to be off the grid this is it. No cell service. The campground did not have a camp host so roudy campers are not kept in check. Also the water pump was out of order due to the test for purity was not processed yet. Bring extra rolls of toliet paper because the outhouses ( while they were good) where not resupplied over the weekend. So if you love off the grid and willimg to wing it with neighbors and water go for it. Great brook trout fishing and plenty of wildlife to enjoy. It would be a good home base to explore the areas many trails.

It was my first time camping here. I needed a place for a Girl Scout troop. The campsites were large and there was access to the lake. The only space left for us was the one right in the front near the entrance but it was great! There was potable water and the outhouses were kept clean and the camp host was friendly and helpful. Bring your boats! There were a few campers who launch their boats down the road and then come tie them up at the beach. There are several small camping grounds next to each other and the camp host managed all of them. He would drive through in his pickup and check on everything a couple times each day. Because of the proximity to water and the road you will need to haul in your own firewood. If you have a 4x4 there are a couple of forest roads on the other side that you can drive up to gather wood. Just make sure you are not on private property but most is clearly marked. Later in the year huckleberries will be everywhere. Because of this there is a bear warning for the campgrounds. I know some who go up there every year and there has not been a bear sighting in a few years. However food still needs to be locked up in the car and garbage disposed of each night. The camp ground even has a separate collection for recyclables. I will be coming back!

This campground boasts lovely showers and bathrooms. All well and good if you like to be in a fishbowl. There is no privacy between camp spaces. The rangers do not enforce the quiet hour rule and you get woken up in the middle of the night by screaming kids. Not my idea of a fun camping experience.
