I visited this place in early January, at this time there were hundreds of cranes I'm not sure when the prime viewing month is but you would not be disappointed in January. There is dispersed free camping in the parking loop. Just pull Up to one of the pipe enclosed picnic tables and set up. There is no drinkable water on the premises so B.Y.O.W There is an old pole barn just beyond the parking loop. It houses some Barn Owls. Turn to the right of the barn and walk toward the lake. It is quite a spectacular event to see and hear the cranes flying back to the lake to roost for the night. And leaving the lake in the early morning hours to feed in the fields. Lots of bird watchers and wildlife lovers come to witness this morning and evening.
This BLM is a great place to camp because of its close proximity to Quartzite. There is a deionized water station just down the road I was there in December 2020 and January of 2021 Covid 19 had a big effect on the crowd but I had a very good time not having to negotiate. The RV vendors tent was only half the size it is normally. The weather was nice mid 50s in the mornings and mid to high 70s low 80s from noon on. I will definitely camp here again this December and January.
This area is also called Empire Ranch. The ranch is 44,000 acres boastes lots of wildlife elk, antelope, coyotes, kangaroo rats, and roadrunners. The ranch house can be toured along with several bunkhouse and barns. Several western movies have been shot on the ranch and lots of the scenery looks familiar from these said movies. John Wayne Frank, Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sam Elliott are some of the actors in these movies. Water can be acquired at the camp host and gift shop area at the ranch house. The ranch has an airport which all the large Class A Class Cs and goose neck campers usually camp because the campsites are on the air strip area and requires very little backing. A true gem of a dispersed camping area.
This dispersed camping area boasts a trout stream that borders several of the camp sites I observed several trout in the shallows. The sites are private and a good distance between each site. It has been rumored that the Nomads have stayed the hot summer months at Homesteak. The town of Leadville is a quirky picturesque mineing town with lots of history. The local laundry mat is also a showering facility.
I camped in this dispursed BLM area in September 2019. This is remote camping, pack it in pack it out. The area is very beautiful at around 8 or 9000 ft. elevation nice and cool in the hot summer months. A trout stream runs by several of the camp sites. Very peaceful relaxing place. Near the town of Leadville a very picturesque and quirky mineing town it is rumored that the Nomads have spent the summer months at Homesteak BLM
This is dispursed camping carry in carry out very remote dirt roads. Would be very difficult for a large Class A or larger Class C. Mostly small campers and tents.😎😁
Four lakes within a short drive of each other. Celina, Indian, Tipasaw and Saddle. Very good fishing. Red ear, blue gill, bass and catfish are the catch of the day. The campgrounds are private and easy to back into.
Very clean campground near the Ohio River. Offers hiking horse back riding nearby fishing in the Ohio River. Or just kicking back and relaxing.
Camped here for two weeks in July of 2019. Very nice clean campground. Boasts a herd of dappled deer and white squirrels. Not albino but white with a small patch of gray on top of their head. Supposedly brought here by a gypsie from Spain.they were trapped on a game preserve smuggled here by said gypsie. They are not found anywhere but the park area. Very good fishing and a very relaxing place.
Very nice campground nestled among palm trees, palmento palms and pines. This is a five star State Park bordering the pass to the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Good fishing in the pass and Gulf. Activativaties include fishing, swimming and paddle boarding or just lying in the sun.
Camped here in August of 2019 a quiet campground located about 25 miles from Panama City Beach. Mostly pine forrest nice campsites and a beautiful lake.
Stayed at this Rv park in march of 2019. A clean park located in the middle of Capitan New Mexico. The location is very convenient about 20 miles from Reuidoso 25 or so miles from Carrizozo and Fort Stanton in the east the receptionist Sharon is very contentious and helpful.
A nice place to disperse camp vault toilets, the campground is at approximately 8000 ft. I observed elk crossing my campsite. A very nice place to camp in the summer to escape the heat. Near the town of Corona.
Friendly family owned park the receptionist Sharon is very thoughtful and helpful. Very clean lots of rv sights full amenities showers tank dump electric and water. Sharon even brought me homemade tomallies one evening.
Nice clean restrooms full amenities electric, water, tank dump, this area has a lot of history. The lava tubes, the town of Carrizozo White Oak and Capitan. These are all towns that Billy the kid frequented back in the day also the ghost town of White oak was the largest gold mining town in New Mexico.
Baca dispersed camping is a great camping area that has a lot to offer. Very remote, lots of wildlife, elk, coyotes, roadrunners. This place was once a CCC camp in the 1930s,. There is no water on the premises so you must bring your own. No trash faculties, so pack it in, pack it out. Only 15 miles from Capitan to the west and 20 miles to Reuidoso in the north. This is a free campground.
I stayed at this campground in April the weather was mostly in the mid 60s through the day and the high 30s at night. I enjoyed my stay, the area is very similar to the Homesteak camping area near Leadville Colorado. The campground is very clean and also the vault toilet's. I will definitely camp here again.😎
