Nice, Busy Forested Campground with Falls

We stayed during a busy summer season and it was beautiful. We hiked a number of trails to get to water falls that cooled us. Access was good but traffic and parking was busy depending on destination.

Good Forested Lake Campground Preserve

Good campgrounds with trails including equestrian options, and water! Can rent canoes, kayaks, and pontoons! Bait shop, fishing, food options with town just a few miles away. Mississippi River near by for big river options. Lota of wildlife with bald eagles near by. Scout Camp nearby.

Beautiful Popular Park

This park is popular, has plenty of space, though can use updates and better Leave No Trace practices (litter). During our time, park and cg was busy, full at times. Hiking was great with geological aspects. Has Lodge, CG store, lots of history.

Large Campground on Madeline Island

Lots to do especially for water activities. Long beach, shower house, family sites, State Natural Area, nature programs and more. Took guided kayaking tour to the caves. Town is nearby for any needs. Ferry ride required unless you have a boat.

Amazing site with natural & historical adventures

Between the kayaking at Sylvan Lake, the resort amenities, hiking in Black Elk Wilderness, Black Elk Peak, this area is great. Needles Eye, Rushmore, nearby.

Nice wooded primitive campground nestled in forested trail system

Primitive. Campground host, wood available in park, playground, showers, fishing, golfing, historical village, bike/hike/horse trails, park gates close after hours. Concessions available, pool.

Nice County Park

Camped by tent, basic amenities on-site-fire ring, table, etc. Went kayaking on lake and then on Des Moines River (close by). Nice wildlife areas, hiking, fishing, etc. Pleasant staff.

Best Wildplace Camping in Iowa

Trout streams well fed, campsites spread out well, amenities good for primitive use area. Horses welcome, firewood and ice available. Historical Fire Tower hike/visit is a must. Primitive pack-in sites, 1 cabin available. Modern Cabin is well maintained, electricity, microwave, a full sized refrigerator, and two porches, where one of them is screened in. Sleeps 6.

Well Maintained, natural area with good amenties

Plenty of campsite offerings with good amenities. Paddling, fishing, hiking, swimming, to name a few. Firewood available. Conservation education center open seasonally with programs offered. Forest, prairie, wetland habitats. Not far from town for quick trip if needed.

Nice County campground, well maintained

Wooded sites, clean, wildlife, trails, shelter, and 2 cabins available. Pool, Pioneer Village, gold course, Pride Lake, fishing, bike & horse trails.

Nice open campground along woods

Sites are well maintained with grassy pads. Near gold course, host at campground is helpful. Trails, wildlife, historical pioneer village near by, swimming [pool also.

Older campground along Mississippi River backwaters

Primitive tent site, fire ring/grill, cheap stay. has small camp store and newer nature center, canoe/kayak rentals, shower house, wood for fee. Can be very buggy depending on season, right along backwaters, good fishing, wildlife viewing. Has a pontoon for tours.

Nice County Campground on east shore Lake George

Primitive campsites (non-electric) surrounded by natural area with access to a boat ramp and docks on Lake George, flush toilets, water access, playground, picnic area, and pavilion.

Primitive County Conservation Sites

Nice quite sites along the Raccoon River. Has hiking, fishing, hunting, paddling, wildlife, small Bear Creek nature center, open daily 1/2 hr before sunrise to 10:30 pm, Has upper and lower (adjacent to Raccoon River) campground sites.

First to Review
Nice site on Lake

Canoe access #30, with only 7 permits issued annually.. Two portages to Lake Two, none to Lake Three, and 2 shorter portages to Horseshoe Lake sites.

Great large campground

Though larger in # of sites, has many amenities you may need. Water, grills, tables, swimming beaches, showers, boat ramps, paddling access, fishing, wildlife-plenty. Be careful, gate hours are enforced. Nice size group sites.

Smaller campground on Illinois River, IL

Stayed with daughter in tent site right on shore of Illinois River. Has marina adjacent, showers, host, and laundry. Inexpensive tent sites with access for fishing, paddling, wildlife and sunset viewing.

Neat island campground

Breezy, good fishing day and night, facilities need upgrades. Great for paddling and lake side swimming, has ramp. Great pizza place nearby - Bombfire Pizza.

Beautiful campsite with beach and sunrises

Wonderful site with nice showers, fishing access, swimming, hiking, breezy-ocean mist.

Very nice campground and full of wildlife

Great birding including Chuck-will's-widow, Croatan Nat Forest, close to Cape Hatteras and Hatteras Island by ferry. Nice breeze, morning fog is usual.
