Stayed for 2 nights in Site #3. Was called prior to arrival regarding checking in. Missed "closing time" but went to site and checked in next morning. The Park fee is not included in the camping fee with is a bit of a pain, but I actually received a partial refund since the Senior rate was not included in my reservation.
Plenty of well marked trails to hike, a nice lake, beautiful spring, and if you are interested a thorough Museum about the Civil war prison camp that was located on the grounds. (Note: there is no swimming at the spring)
Sites are level with good power and water. I felt they were a bit close, but we are not campground people. #3 seemed one of the most private, even though right across from the Hosts and near the Bathhouse. The Bathhouse was very clean and new.
Made reservation a couple of days in advance. The only lakeside site available was #20. That was probably because it was small (~25' max). But the view was great. Sites are well maintained. The Lakeside sites have well maintained pads but steep drops, so check their lengths. Power and Water were good. Bath house was spacious, clean and warm.
Sites appeared to be staggered well to provide most with good view of lake. Some had their boats pulled up at their sites. It was surprisingly quiet for a full, local campground. Only noise came from the kids having fun swimming, and the geese.
Clean dump station, potable water fill, and dumpster with easy access on the way out.
We are not park people, and we only stayed one night passing through. But would not hesitate to do so again.
Advice: Pay the extra for the lakeside sites, and get up for sunrise.
Mixed feelings about this campground. It has too many sites too close together, but if few people are there it is peaceful. We stayed on a weeknight. Several people used the boat ramp, but only one other camper. So the night was quiet. I could see how it could be well used for day picnics and fishing and could become quite noisy. The boat ramp is separated from the camp a bit, and it was not noisy.
Not much view of lake from sites, but the lake is pretty from the fishing pier and boat launch. A bit of trash in some sites but not too bad. I'm guessing someone does not come and check on this site every day. We were in a van and did not try the pit toilets.
It is about 3 miles from the main road, one mile of speed bumps, two of dirt, but it is level and well packed.
Camping area has only 6 spread-out spots that are pushed back off the road, so privacy is good. Site 6 is quite large with table, and fire pit with benches.
Note the roads are hard-pack and it is a Florida pine forest so it gets a bit muddy (and mosquito-y) on rainy days. Dump station is not fully paved so it too, gets muddy.
Clean and Shady camping space with newer, clean showers and restrooms.
The park has many amenities just a short walk away. Nearby golf course seems to be appreciated by several campers. Take a walk down to the dam and read about the construction of the park and the lake, by the CCC, in the 1930's
As of September 2023 the construction on the Cottages continues, so there is some noise during the day. But considering we were the closest to it, it was not bad.
