We stayed two nights in mid-May, at site number 72. Area was gorgeous, well maintained, shady and quiet. Tons of hiking trails in very close proximity to the campground! There is electricity on site, but no water or sewage at each site. However there is a water fill station and a dump station. So just come prepared. Also, they have a very strict no alcohol policy. Not that that stopped people, but don't go walking around with a beer bottle! We would definitely return.
Great experience! Cheryl was fantastic, was fine with us checking in late and left us an extra hose and power cord in case ours did not reach. The sites are a little close together and you are on a hill, but we had no problem in our 31' class A. Gravel pads made leveling easy. Beautiful yard, walking trails and playground with resident kitty. Convenient location across from Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. Would definitely stay here again!!
I only booked this place because Starved Rock was booked. Pros: close proximity to the parks, nice scenery at some sites near the creek, very quiet during our midweek stay ( almost deserted). Also lots of activities in site. Cons: Where to begin?!
- Poor layout. Single lane asphalt "road" in and out and within the campground itself, on a sharp incline.
- Our site was Creekside and supposed to be ok for RV. We have a 31' class A. We barely made it up to the site - which was mud. Had to pick another site at random after we called the office and nobody answered.
- Crappy dump station location. Again, up a hill with sharp turns, one way in and out - single lane.
- Price! We paid $48 + tax. What a ripoff. For that I expect better access and full hookups including sewer.
- Our neighbors warned us that if we are 1 minute late checking out they would charge us another night, even if nobody is waiting for your spot. Gee thanks!
Overall, ok for tent camping or small rigs (15 ft or less). Anything longer forget it!!!
