Check-in took a LONG time! Upon check-in, the staff member seemed very confused with questions we asked. Booking online said 25’-30’ RVs were allowed in the self contained RV/tent area, depending on the site. We knew we were taking a chance on not finding a fitting site with a 30’ rig. When asked if the site she assigned would accommodate our rig, she said “um I think so” then handed us a map with our number circled and tried to send us on our way. We asked her to please verify and it took some time and help from another team member to determine it wouldn’t fit. It took about 15 mins for this process and to eventually find a site we’d fit in. When asked where we could fill our freshwater tank, she replied “oh I didn’t charge you for that! Hang on!” She thought we meant that we wanted a full hook up (none were available) and then proceeded to ask us for additional money. We clarified and asked where the dump station was and she said “but you just got here?!”
Other than that process being less than ideal, the views are fantastic. We ended up with site 101 and had a perfect view of the lake from our windows. The walk to the beach is a little lengthy but worth it. Bathrooms were clean, laundry is cheap, and showers are $2 and token operated for 8 mins.
One other thing, not the CG’s fault…I’ve never had so many people walk through a campsite before!!! It drove our dogs crazy! We even had men from across the road come over to collect dried/dead brush from our “yard”. And when I say our yard, I mean I could’ve reached out the window and touched them. Our site is close to the bathroom but instead of using the sidewalk or trail 10ft away, people walked right past us. We were sitting at our picnic table one night and had people stroll right on by about 5’ away, never even acknowledging us.
It seems I’m in the minority here but we weren’t impressed with this campground. It wasn’t the worst campground we’ve ever stayed at but certainly not that great. We enjoy hiking and being outdoors. There are limited trails in the park. Our rv is 30’ and it was tight to say the least. We had to park next to our rv and it was a very tight squeeze between trees, with tree limbs scraping the top of our rv. The store in the campground wasn’t too pricey and was well stocked but the lodge/gift shop further into the park was outrageous. Staff at the campground was friendly and helpful. Don’t count on the WiFi (we didn’t need it) but for those working on the road, there’s no cell service and WiFi is very spotty.
This has been our favorite campground yet! It’s a bit of a rough road getting up the mountain but it’s worth it. Lots of washboarding on the road up but it’s fine if you just coast over the bad areas and go slow. Our site was level, clean, and very spacious! Staff was around on golf carts frequently, cleaning bathrooms and sites, but never bothersome.
We stayed here for 11 nights. Spaces are a bit tight, as you have to park next to your rv but we were able to make it work. WiFi was strong at our spot, #76. Very friendly and helpful staff, quick to clean up when others left, clean facilities, and lots of activities for all members of the family. Just a few miles from Lake Estes and RMNP. And we saw elk daily, including them drinking out of the stream behind our camper.
The campground hosts, Dan and his wife, have been nothing but helpful and kind. They make their rounds often but never impose. Sites are level, the park is quiet, there is fishing and plenty of hiking. Facilities are clean and well maintained. Plenty of spacing between sites too!
The campground hosts right at the front (I didn’t get their names) were so friendly and helpful! We had a travel trailer but opted to use their showers. Very clean and well maintained. Campground officials patrolled the area regularly but seemed very lenient (within reason of course). We walked many of the trails and visited nearby attractions. Great location, quiet, and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
