Several campsites on SR410 very private, great views of Kodacrome Basin in Grande Staircase Escalante
Would give this a 4.8 if we could - pretty private sites for a NP campground! And right in the valley!!! Level spots and access to showers! Bathrooms decent - quiet. Nice neighbors. We lucked out and checked at Rec.gov at 6:30 pm for any cancellations and scored a 2-night spot!
We love camping in the park - and this campground has the best location. Many campsites are more private than the one we were assigned but not much you can do when they are randomly assigned. Nice facilities/bathroom/dish washing station. The potable water on loop 1 was broken but Host shared they hoped it would be fixed soon. Walk down to the Madison is easy. Small campsite store was great. Flat campsites.
We loved the scenery and the surroundings but the campground is not really a campground, it’s a parking lot. Lovely evening - and met very friendly campers - no host, and at 12:30 very loud knuckleheads came in with no consideration for the other campers as they kept the diesel truck running and headlights on while they set up camp. Other than that - clean bathrooms and cleaning station. Not many camping options in this area but we are glad we stayed. Visitor center informative. The corner sites are the best if you want a little privacy. We had reserved 31 but moved to 25 on-site (easy change on res.gov) in order to spread out a bit. Can easily see Carlsbad and hike in Guadeloupe from here. Loved the bat flight at Carlsbad!!! Also hiked Smith Springs Trail is an easy 2.5 mile hike that goes back into one of the canyons to a beautiful spring!
Arrived late in the afternoon - hiked the Lost Mine Trail. Returned to our campsite and neighbors had set up their tent in our space right by our covered picnic table. As we have a rooftop tent it was not a problem but I echo that the campsites are very close to eachother and everyone should go into this campground knowing that their own campsite may not be level and your neighbors may be goofs :) - but it is so beautiful that it is totally worth it. Site 18 was fairly level and while near the entrance, has gorgeous views (and we barely noticed that we were close to the front). Camp hosts were so knowledgeable and friendly.
Beware if you are visiting this month - we could not hike the Santa Elena Canyon bc of rains - the river was waaay to high. Also the Old Maverick Road was great w a 4WD but tricky at times.
Arrived the afternoon of July 4th and waited until day crowd left to choose our campsite - have to go to the right for camping - only 3 cars on the camping stretch - Sandy but totally worth the effort! A bit windy. Bought shrimp at a local seafood market on the way in. Bathroom/shower was okay - but we were very grateful for it! Only frustration was the knucklehead who wanted to film himself doing 360s in his truck … thankfully that only lasted 2 minutes. Also, took the ferry over from the north and left via Corpus Christi to the south.
Down a 10 mile dirt road, we got the 5th of 6 sites (4:00?) beautiful site - shade, picnic table and fire ring provided - great short hikes - clean, no water, gorgeous sunset and stars. Short interesting hikes - train sounds in the distance! Absolutely worth it!
We lucked out and checked the availability regularly to see if a spot opened up when we needed it - and it did! Stayed 2 nights. Campground is easy walking to the Jenny Lake Loop Trail, Jenny Lake and the Park Information Ctr. Wonderful Hosts, quiet campers, clean bathroom, water access every few campsites, and NO BIG CAMPERS and generators allowed - one car per campsite…loved it!!!!
Needed one night as we headed west - great find - clean, quiet, showers, friendly staff and other campers. We lucked out and got a site in the back and were the only ones (89-92) on Lake 6. Other loops were full of RVs. (Also know that you can hear the highway-but we figured that as it’s literally right next to it!)
Beautiful remote campground - especially if you’ve just left West Yellowstone! Clean bathrooms and well spaced campsites so you’re not on top of each other. Drive out toward quake lake and the Madison is beautiful!
Stayed here for one night in early Sept. For a large campground, we found it to be well spaced (and we had one of the inside loop spots!) with other campers very respectful of each other (very quiet at 10pm!) clean bathrooms and wash station. Easy check-in. Firewood available at campsite.
Stayed in the Stockade South Campground in early September. Very clean, nicely spaced campsites. Bathrooms very clean. Gorgeous park with tons to do. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.
Nice clean park right on the lake/river. Stayed in Wiegand Campground. Campsites close to eachother and has a lot of concrete. Beautiful sunset on the water. Mix of tents and RVs. Bring quarters if you will want to take a shower!
Nice campground, not crowded and great hike to caves. Trails map not very good. Caves closed but could still see where they were. Deer on the trail. Bathrooms decent.
