Exploring the Pacific Northwest with my husband and 2 floofers in our 20ft r-pod camper trailer.

Near the river& mountains!

When we Stayed: January, Thursday-Saturday

The Cabins: we stayed in a deluxe cabin. It had a full bathroom and kitchenette - I've stayed in other state park campgrounds and this was the biggest cabin I've stayed in!

Location: beautiful wooded park with a trail along the river. On a morning walk I saw a herd of elk cross the river and run behind the cabins! The cabin area was large and private but I didn't explore the rest of the park since it was the middle of winter when we were there.

Dog Friendly: huge off leash fenced park that's a bit of a walk or quick drive from the main campsites.

Good for kids

When we Stayed: Mid April, Thursday-Saturday

Overall Experience: I've stayed here a few times with family - when staying with kids I'd definitely come back, otherwise I would not.

Campground: It's a huge park with a more private, wooded camp ground and then another that's open and next to all the kid's stuff and amenities.

Sites: if you want to be near the pool and kids activities, choose a site near the middle. It's very loud and lots of traffic. The upper sites are wooded and more private.

Amenities: the camp store is great and well stocked. The park has tons of stuff for kids- a pool, playground and more.

Gloomy pit but good dog park

When we Stayed: Mid-April, Thursday night

Overall Experience: would not stay again in the tiny, cramped, dark campsite.

Sites: the whole park was down a slope with a creek running through. It was dark and gloomy and a mosquito haven. Our site was uneven and narrow. Walking around, the park seemed nicer especially on the upper loop with bigger sites and less mosquitos.

Dog Friendly: the best part about the park was the nice sized off leash dog park.

Right on the beach!

When we Stayed: Early April, Wednesday-Friday

Overall Experience: our site was right next to the path to the beach - perfect!! It's a beautiful coastal wooded park so walking the dogs all around the campground was a pleasure.

Sites: we reserved online and picked a site right next to the path that led to the beach over the dunes. Our site was plenty big with lots of space between sites, although not a ton of privacy bc there were few trees directly between sites.

Campground: It's a huge campground so at least half the sites were not as close to the beach.

Incredible location for rustic cabins!

When we Stayed: Early December, Wednesday-Friday

Overall Experience: secluded cabins made for a private, relaxing trip.

Cabins: there is a group of cabins away from the main campground so they're quiet and private. We had a shower, toilet and kitchenette. The parking lot is a bit of a walk from the cabins but they provide wheelbarrows to haul your stuff up to the cabin.

Location: a quick walk down to the beach and easy hiking trails in the woods. The cabins were up on a bluff in the woods so you could just barely see the ocean through the trees.

Not what I was expecting

When we stayed: Mid-May, Monday-Friday

Overall Experience: a beautiful park that's undergoing improvements but I would not go back.

Camp Sites: the whole park is forrested and very beautiful - they have cabins, tent sites and RV sites. We reserved in advance but got a tiny site right across from the bathrooms, laundry, and office so there was little privacy and barely any space in the site. We asked to move to a different site but they said they were either reserved for others or under repair. The park seemed about half empty so not sure why we couldn't move to a bigger site. Many of the other sites were more secluded and a bit larger, so maybe we were just unlucky.

A Couple Disappointments: their website claimed there were walking trails and off-leash dog walking trails. The 3 people in the office didn't even know these trails existed and when we found the trails, they were super short, basically just a quick walk behind all the camp sites. Also there was a ton of construction starting at 9am Tuesday morning re-doing the gravel road around the park.

Location: it's right on hwy 101 so lots of traffic noise. Also, super close to Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park for beautiful hiking and old growth redwoods. The campground is also across the street from the local prison…

Bathrooms: clean and large, good hot showers.

quiet campground

overall a great experience! We had originally planned to put a 2nd tent on 1 site but ended up paying for a separate site because they couldn't quite fit 2 tents, although there seemed to be a lot of variation across the campground in site size.

There were a lot of campers, but it seemed quiet and private because of the dense trees.

It was a few minute walk down to the lake, but it wasn't a very nice spot for swimming or hanging out.

In August the lake was low so the banks were muddy. we had a few dogs with us so they had fun playing but we would have gone to another spot on the lake if we wanted to swim.
