Pleasant, well maintained, mountain escape

Doll Mountain Campground near Ellijay, Georgia is located on a peninsula stretching into Carter's Lake, and managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.  Beware upon entering from the main road -- there are steep hills and switchbacks leading into and through the campground.  There are two (maybe three?) restroom/shower facilities;  be prepared to drive back and forth or get a good walking workout.  A bicycle will be a nice camp accessory.

The main camp road runs along a ridge.  Sites are located on either side, many having decks overlooking or overhanging the steep draws and spurs.

Electric sites marked 50A also have 30A and 15A (120V household outlet).  See photo.

The sites are close enough, but there's plenty of space.  Due to the topography, most are distanced front-to-back so you're not camping directly adjacent to one another.  Each site has a fire pit, a wood or charcoal grill, and a sturdy picnic table.

A black bear was in the campground during our stay, but it didn't bother anyone.  Just be "bear aware."
