Old hwy 163 dispersed camping

This old hwy area is reached from current hwy where a historical sign is for the Hobbs Party. There is a out .4 mile of lumpy slickrock two track before you hit the old hwy surface. A bit to west a two track road is off to the north. Nice camps scattered. This actual camp area is on Utah State lands but BLM is close.

Cell is good, no water, no trash, no toilets. Not recommended for TTs or RVs, best suited to overland types.

Butler Wash pay station

Butler Wash day use and camping has a use fee. $5 day per person or $10 week per person. Dispersed camps are scattered all along this road to the north. No water, no trash, no toilets except the two porta-potties at the pay station. Cell signal is fair to no e depending on location. Road is native surface and would be muddy if saturated. Not recommended for TYs or large TVs, best suited for overlander types or short wb vans.

First to Review
Corral location

This is a large spot adjacent to a livestock corral in comb Wash. The old hwy crossed thru this area in distant past. No cell signal. Some hwy noise

Great BLM cg

Tucked along the San Juan river, this CG is also the rafter boat launch for river trips. Loop B is the larger loop for the larger TTs and RVs. Loop A is for the small tenters and has a length restriction for RVs. $15/$7.50 senior, water spigots available, vault toilets, dumpsters. Cell signal is fair on T-Mobile.

End of road primo spot

This is at the end of a sandy two track below the corrals. Nice small loop on a knob. Views all around including hoodoos on ridge above. Not recommended for large TTs or RVs, best for overlander types due to some loose sand. Cell signal is marginal.. comes and goes.

Great spot and views

This spot is at the end of a spur along the fence from the corrals. Best for smaller TTs/RVs…mostly vans, truck campers due to small turn-around. Limited cell. No water, no dumpters, no toilets.

Nice views both ways

This area is close to the livestock corral. Large open sandy area for several camps. The corral does have a sign saying no camping 300ft but that did not seem the case. Views are nice in all directions, some hwy noise but not at nite. Free dispersed on Glen Canyon NPS, BLM is farther down a 4wd road. Cell signal was marginal 1-2 bars. No water, no dumpsters, no toilets. Fire rock rings are scattered. No shooting in this area.

State Line spot

Just a parking kind of spot at fence line that is the State line. However, if you go up that side track that follows the fence to the west there is a much better spot off main road but is best for small TTs, trucks, vans as turnaround is tight so recon first.

Big gravel lot semi and RV last chance

It's this or the Walmart. Share with semis, but great cell.

Wide open dispersed fee camping

To access you have to pay NPS entry fee or have senior pass. The camping is open dispersed $14/$7 senior, 14d limit. Lots of tiny toilets scattered around. Cell was very good for 5g T-Mobile. Dumpsters at upper end on way out. Fees are paid at the entrance station. This area is an off-road play area on sandy hills toward the top of the area

Large CG by a consessions.

Large CG run by a pvt consessions. $30 nite for no hookups. Most loops are full hookups. Only loop 4 was open for dry camping RVs and tents. Sites are packed in together. Large fancy restrooms.

Large parking area

This spot is just a large parking area at jct of the hwy and dirt road going into the Paria movie set/ townsite

Great cell signal, but no other facilities. Good spot to take a lunch break or sleep for the nite. Hwy noise may be an issue. Note that the dirt road into paria townsite is a narrow two track and can be very sandy or muddy. There are some camp sites at the end but there is a very steep hill going in there the last section. Recon first before hauling a TT or RV in there.

Little Creek Mesa MTB camping area and TH

The pin is at the TH where folks park. Rough slickrock past this point. Free dispersed camps are in this TH area and back down the access road in several spots. This road is rough rocky but AWD SUVs seem to get there. Cell is very good. No info kiosk or signage at TH. No water, no dumpsters, no toilets, no fire-rings. Access road from hwy #89 is 8.4 miles. At mile 3.1 you are on BLM. At mile 6.4 is a juct that you need to go RIGHT, not straight. Camping is best for tenters and truck campers. Hauling a TT or large RV up there on the rough rocky would be risky, but some get up there still!

Hurricane flats #1-12 dispersed

This dirt spur accessed designated dispersed camps 1-12. The access road is rough dusty dirt clay mud and impossible if saturated wet. Sites are rough but large enough for RVs and TTs. Note there are no trees and no staff but the views are awesome. Cell signal is excellent 5g with five bars on T-Mobile. This spur is closest to Hurricane and the Jem MTB trails bisect this camping spur. No tables, no dumpsters, no water, just pure FREE boondocking.

Lower CG review

The lower CG is bigger but most sites are very small and suitable for tenters, the sites on the open lower end (13-20) are best for TTs and RVs, but no shade. CG has dumpsters, water but no cell signal, whereas the upper CG does get a cell signal. Sites are now cashless and you can either reserve or pay online as you choose a site, no FCFS like previous years. Guess you need to go up to upper CG to get cell though? This lower CG is close to the marina mini Mart store.

Large free dispersed area

Large area FREE dispersed in Lake Lead NRA. Access road is lumpy paved .6 mile and washboard gravel 1.2 miles. One vault toilet at top but otherwise no other amenities. No dumpsters (free dumpsters at blue point sprs), no water, no RV dump (water and RV dump at upper Echo Bay CG for free). The vault toilet is very clean, NPS maint cleans often. Cell signal was fair to good on T-Mobile. Closest groceries is Lins in Overton 15 miles away. If the camping area is wet or rain forecast, suggest staying up higher on the stoney graveled areas. Landscape views are huge but vegetation is gray and dead looking which is my reason for 3 stars.

Pvt MGMT now!

NPS turned this dry CG over to the marina as of Jan 1 2024. The marina charges $20 and no senior discount…guess the Lake Mead NPS wants out of the CG MGMT hassles.

Over priced ripoff

$80 RV, $45 tent camping with No shade, CG is not even on the lake. Total crazy stupid ripoff by a pvt hospitality company leasing the NPS camping area.

Quiet secluded CG

Temple Bar CG is about 26 miles from hwy 93, paved all the way. CG has 71 sites but no fcfs, all have to be reserved or paid for online. No cell signal at CG but seems open wifi down at the marina store. I used my Starlink to get online. Sites have tables and a fire ring. Scattered water spigots and dumpsters. Couple flush toilet bldgs. CG host onsite. Very quiet and remote area of the Lake Mead park. The entrance station was not open and not sure if an entrance fee is being enforced. The NPS ranger station adjacent to CG was also not open. This CGs is one of the quietest I have ever experienced, 71 sites and like max of 7 sites taken. Wonder if the NPS is going to hand this CG mgmt over to the Marina like at cottonwood cove on NV side.

Burro Creek Overflow camping area

When the Burro Creek CG is full, this is your option to wait for a spot to open. Good cell signal but no water, trash, or marked sites. The Burro Creek CG does allow the dry campers to come in and use the RV dump and fill with water $10 fee.
