Lakeside 42

Site 42 is on the lake and is a long, breezy spot. However, there is little shade during the morning and afternoon. •Picnic table •Fire ring with grate •Flat site •No hammock trees •Across the campground from the bathroom/shower and privy •Close to playground •Boat/motor/canoe rental •Helpful and nice staff •Well maintained

Northern Lights, Northern Skies

PLAN AHEAD. This trip will likely take more planning than other trips you’ve taken. If you bring your own boat, you’ll have options. If you use a water taxi, you’d better have your supplies well-stocked and in order. The sites are primitive. My best advice is learn how to filter and treat water. Oh, and bring TP! This is likely the most isolated you’ll ever be camping.

On The Lake

Nice larger sites, usual campground stuff. I stayed across from the lake and it was great. Fire pits, wood for sale, showers, water, etc.

Big Bog For The Win, No Really

I came across BB by accident a few years ago - last minute camping trip in the summer in MN is never going to work out well. The main campground was booked but there was a weird site between the ranger station and the loop so I took a shot. BINGO. They have a site - 31 - that is perfect. About 5x the size of a normal site (perhaps a group site?). No neighbors. Primitive but the campground only has 31 sites so you’re never far away from water, showers, or the ranger station. Cannot recommend highly enough. The main campground backs up to the Tamarack River which flows to Red Lake. Across the road from the camp is Red Lake recreation area. You can w a l k out into the lake for what seems like miles. Very family friendly. There are sites with docks into the river and there is boat access in the campground. Cabins are available as is firewood and an electric charge port for e-vehicles.
