This is one of the few beaches you can drive on in CA. Come prepared with 4WD. Ride ATVs on the dunes and camp on the beach. Lots of trash and always windy.
Perfectly situated near all the best trailheads. No privacy at this campground. Lots of loud families. Walking distance to the store with firewood and ice. Creek runs through it and lots of big trees nearby.
Easy shuttle ride from some awesome hikes. Our site was near a creek with standing water and hence some mosquitos and stinky because of proximity to the bathroom. Good shade and a solid NP campground option.
The beach is amazing. But if you’re tent camping don’t bother going if you can only get a site on the back side by the freeway. Way too loud, especially when the trains go by. Sites by the beach are night and day
