Spent a weekend here in July. There was only one other site is use while we were there. Very secluded and set back in the woods, but only a short drive to Nockamixon. Would definitely stay again!
We have only done 1-2 overnight paddle trips before, but the park rangers were very helpful in getting us set up. The paddle took about 3-4 hours each way but we took our time. There was only one place where we were unsure which direction to go, but after paddling around a bit we found our way and the rest was smooth sailing. We only saw a few other people on the water. No signs of wildlife anywhere, except for a few birds here and there. Enjoyed an awesome sunset and sunrise from the chickee. Stars were great but hard to enjoy because as soon as the sun goes down the bugs SWARM. Pack some cards or something to do in the tent after sunset before bed. Beautiful sunrise.
nice campground with tent and RV sites. The tent site we stayed had the perfect view of the sunrise over the lake without even leaving the tent! Lots of families with kids. Picnic tables and fire rings at the tent sites and very friendly campground hosts!
Very expensive for a campsite, but maybe that's standard for in the Keys. It was basically just a gravel parking lot. There is not a lot of room between sites and sites are small. We had a 4 man tent and it was much tighter space than any other campground. Almost impossible to stake down a tent, so we tied the tent to the fence and picnic table. Right by the road and airport too, so expect a lot of noise. They did have nice restrooms and dish sinks, as well as some different games set up like jenga and chess. There were several events (trivia nights, happy hour) scheduled at the campground for campers, but we were unfortunately unable to attend. Small book library available. Short drive to Key West; expect to hear roosters most of the night.
We transferred our reservations from Flamingo Bayside to Long pine key after 1 night at Flamingo. Long Pine Key was so much better! Nice, clean, stocked bathrooms and large showers. Also have a dish sink by the bathhouse. Bugs are 10x better here than over at Flamingo. Staff was very friendly and allowed us to transfer our reservation easily.
The staff at the campground were nice and showed us to the tent area which was an open field by the bay with picnic tables and fire rings scattered around. We showed up after sunset. The second we set foot in the field we were constantly being attacked by the mosquitos. Bug spray doesn't help so make sure you have long pants and long sleeves too. Bathrooms were not too far of a walk, but they were disgusting (no soap, no toilet paper, a cockroach, etc.). The star were awesome, but hard to enjoy with all of the bugs. They were not an issue in the morning and the sunrise was awesome right from the tent. We were suppose to stay for 2 nights but had our reservation switched for the second night over to Long Pine Key.
