Every year this state park and camp grounds seem to be getting more and more popular. We just got back from our second trip from this park within a year. Bathrooms and showers were spotless camp sites clean grass well maintained as usual for this state park! I’m assuming it being 4th of July weekend was why it was extremely crowded on the trails and water falls but for a holiday weekend it was expected. But we were able to enjoy some falls and swimming alone in some new spots we found instead of the most popular ones. This park is one of my favorite trips.
It’s place was a last minute booking for us as we needed to kill 2 days before our next planned stop in North Carolina. I’d say most reviews are pretty accurate I read on here. Bathrooms dated camp spots are small except for a few in the first loop that were pull through. Out of the whole campground on Tuesday there was only 5 camp sites occupied. It was very quiet and peaceful. Even better no cell phone service. When we left people were starting to arrive for the 4th of July weekend. I was surprised at how many sites were tagged for arrival. Now one of the reasons we picked this was because of the lake and reviews on the swimming area for our kids. We were very disappointed in the swimming area. The swim area was filled with locals who were leaving trash on the beach and lake. It was disappointing the amount of fast food rappers and cigarettes butts all over the place. This park does have the potential to be one of those hidden gems with a little TLC. We enjoyed the stay here. We ended up going to Marietta, Ohio both days. This town was not to far away and has a ton of history. I would return to this campground to enjoy the piece and quiet. But would not return to bank on the swimming area and lake to enjoy with the kids.
We stayed here for 3 days 2 nights on a last minute trip we planned to go north. We were able to get a spot right on the river. Sites were a bit close together but we had tons of room. The kids loved playing in the river at our camp site. Also they loved the pool and playground. The staff was amazing and the place was very clean. The campground even has a trolley that has stops in the campground and will take you to town so you don’t have to drive! We will definitely be coming back here again and for a longer time.
We spent 4 Day 3 Nights here. Very nice campground. Lake front sites are hard to come by as most were for permanent sites. The beach and swimming area were very nice. Our boys loved the water slide anchored in the lake to play on. Thursday the campground was an almost ghost town. But once The weekend rolled around the place was packed. The park and jump pad the kids had a blast on. This campground was very enjoyable. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the water had a strong sulfur smell coming out of the fresh water hook up. Next time I’d fill my tank prior to arrival with fresh water. I’d give the campground 4.5 stars if I could give 1/2 stars. Would visit again if we are in the area.
We stopped at this park on our way up from SC. We spent 3 days 2 nights at the park. It was very nice but due to COVID-19 the pool area and other public areas were closed. The park was empty during the week which was nice. The beach was very good and the boys loved it. We also did some kayaking with our own m kayaks. Great place to go would definitely go back. The only down side for us was no water hook up at the site. They have plenty of water filling sites to fill tanks or water jugs tho. We would definitely stay here again.
